how to disable emoticons/smileys on w518a

i'm trying to make it so that shows up as a colon and parenthesis in txt messages, not an image of a smiley face. thanks!

This smiley will probably appear as a colon & parenthesis in your sent messages inbox anyway. The message recipient's phone will determine whether it appears as a smiley or as a symbol, because not all phones have this capability.

Thanks, but when I currently send/receive text messages, a colon and parenthesis shows up as a smiley face on my phone. I would like to know how to set it so that my phone will instead display the smiley face as characters. It does not matter to me what the messages look like on the recipient's phone, as I am concerned with how I view the messages.

If you don't have the option to disable these emoticons on your phone, then you can't.
