Hi, I bought the Sony Xperia U a couple of days ago (SI 1261-6397.8 EN) and am having a fair amount of trouble with the ICS update.
Here's what I've done so far.
1) I've downloaded and installed Sony PC companion on my WIndows & machine.
2) Once I connect the phone to the computer, it recogonises the device. It also alerts me that the ICS upgrade is available.
3) Once I begin the update process, it reaches stage 2 i.e the computer is now prepared for the update.
4) It's the next stage that I have trouble - it asks me to preapre the phone for update - disconnect it, check the battery level, tun it off for 5 seconds, the connect the cable first to the computer, and then to the phone, while holding down the down volume key.
Nothing happens when I do this - no error message, nothing.
I've tried the above sequence multiple times, and it always ends the same way.
Any help would be much appreciated!
regards
Gautham
Hi Gautham,
I've a lot of trouble with Sony PC Companion with Android Gingerbread as well. Could be a driver problem. Alternatively you could try the stand alone update tool: Sony Update Service (SUS). http://www.sonymobile.com/global-en/tools/update-service/
Before use SUS, close PC companion window and task bar icon.
Hint: maybe 5 sec off is a bit short. Sony recommends to shut it down for 30 seconds. When you connect the cable to the phone with the volume key down the light bar of your phone should light up with green light, only on the left side! This indicates thay the phone is in the right state. If the color doesn't show up or disappears immediately then you might have connected it too quick. Unplug the phone, start it normally and log in. Shut down again, wait for 15 sec or more (for me 15 sec works) and try again.
Good luck.
(from The Netherlands, owner of Xperia U since june 2012, still waiting for ICS).
Hey Dumzar,
thanks for the inputs man
. I'll give this a shot. You're right, my phone does light up green, but it goes green all the way across the entire bar. You know, it also got me thinking that I should probably let things rest a bit, Gingerbread isen't exaclty the end of the world is it! The phone otherwise does seem to be doing what it's supposed to be doing nicely
