How do I delete draft sms messages?

Hello all.

My Xperia Z3 has just updated itself.  Prior to updating I had no new "unread" SMS text messages.  After the update my phone restarted itself.  Since then I keep getting a notification that i have a new message,  there is also a number 1 over my SMS messaging icon as if i do actually have a new message.

I DON'T.

I have even deleted every message on my phone including SIM card messages and i still have a number 1 showing a new message.  When i do actually receive a message it increments to 2 however when i check I have 1 new message.  After I read/acknowledge/delete the true new message my icon reverts back to number 1.

I DO NOT HAVE ANY MESSAGES.

Everything was fine before the update today.  Now I am a bit confused.  I have tried restarting the phone, switching SMS from the default app to Hangouts and back which has not made the blindest bit of difference.

Any solution would be appreciated.

Hi and welcome to the community! Since you're new please be sure that you have checked out our Discussion guidelines.

I suggest that you go to Settings > Apps > The tab "All" > Messaging > Clear data. When this is done restart the phone to see if this behaviour appear.

Hello Hampus,

Thank you for your suggestion.  I have cleared the data as requested and restarted the phone.  There appears to still be a message.  The icon still says 1 and the "slide down" announcements periodically keep saying "New Message".

Thank you for your help but there is no change.

It is strange how this only happened after the update.  The instant the phone completed restarting after the update the message icon appeared to have a New Message.

Okay, then I suggest that you clear data for "Xperia Home" via Settings > Apps > The tab "All" > Xperia Home. Note that this will restore your home screen/app drawer to restore to factory, all the folders/changes you've done will be restored.

Well that worked for approx 15 minutes.

The number 1 in the icon has returned to let me know that I have a message (which is not actually in the message inbox.  I also still get the notification pop up.

It is such a shame that this was all working fine until the update.

Am I the only one with this issue?  Is it possible to re-apply or roll back updates?

I'm admittedly no expert but after Hampus's advice not working, this would seem like a fault with your network provider's message centre or something. Or maybe your phone's settings for effectively communicating with their messaging centre. Like you're being notified of a new message but it's not able to download.

I'd call them next or check whether your mms's are maybe set in your settings not to download automatically. Maybe your APN settings for messaging and Internet are in need of a fix. Maybe they're not set right and so there's an mms in the ether but it can't actually download.

Maybe a technical service operator in your network provider's call centre could help with your messaging centre and send new mms and Internet APN settings to your phone, your update might have corrupted them or they might not have downloaded after the update, or something.

I'd call them next. If they don't have a call centre they can resend settings to your phone from or help you with their messaging centre (e.g. if you're with an internet based virtual network provider, like me) I'd go through my messaging app's settings with a fine tooth comb and make sure my APN settings were all tickety-boo and as they should be too, since an mms that can't actually be downloaded properly might do this, I think.

I had software upgrade yesterday and every since I have had too many messages from my network VODAFONE with all config for MMS and SMS and WAP.

I have gone through all of them but can see there is still one left on message notification. I go into the default messaging app and all messages are read.

Please can you help.

I have tried force stopping the APP and also clearing all data and cache. The only thing i would not want to do is factory reset the phone...

Thanks.Screenshot_2014-12-19-10-06-47.png

Open Settings then Apps and swipe to All then locate and open Messaging then tap on Force stop then Clear cache and Clear data then reboot and test
