Any suggestions as to why mini pro wont tether with my Debian Linux system yet the iPhone, with exactly the same network settings, does? Mini Pro with 2.3.3 : same ssid, same wpa2 password. Obviously I only have one on at a time. But when I turn on the iPhone hotspot it connects perfectly, when I turn it off and then test the Android one .. nothing.
the name of the hotspot is case sensitive , once check if u entered correctly. and use connectify -me software , it will work
The settings are exactly the same as I said above. I use Linux. I want to use the built in Android tether SW. Connectify-me is Windows only. Erm..
try virtual wifi manager, there are many softwares out for hotspots
try this link http://www.mobile-stream.com/easytether/android.html
Go there and download the .deb file for Ubuntu. You can get EasyTether or EasyTether Lite .apk files for your phone there as well, or they will be in the Android Market, providing your carrier hasn't blocked it. The Lite version is free, but you can't access htpps sites with it. The full version is ten dollars.
Once you get it installed on your phone, and the .deb on Ubuntu, open up a terminal and type
I am also facing a similar problem. I used three devices to check this problem macbook pro, samsung notebook RV509 and my Xperia mini pro sk17i. when my macbook creates a hotspot both my mini pro and notebook can detect and connect the wifi. But when my notebook creates a hotspot only mac book can detect and connect and my phone fails to detect or connect. Also when my phone tethers the hotspot only macbook can detect and connect whereas my notebook can detect but fails to connect. All networks are on 2.4Ghz wifi. I've tried many things and different s/w but till now no progress seems some issue at the firmware level.
The ironic thing is LInux not being able to tether but the iPhones tethers to both Windows and Linux just fine.
The point is that it does not work built in. Also *which* "virtual wifi manager? I can find no "virtual wifi manager" in the market. Are you still referring to Windows PC SW?
1) I use Debian.
2) Its the phone not working as I said : the Debian connects *fine* to the iPhone hotspot.
3) Easy tether is USB only
4) I said above its about Wifi tethering (hence wpa2, ssid etc).
