HI there, I hope someone can help me! I accidentally deleted the photos from my new Z1 compact (i'll have had it for two weeks tomorrow) when I was trying to back them up to google (inadvertantly tapped the wrong button, and then there was no "failsafe" to stop the process).
Anyway, is there anyone who has done this and knows how to get the photos back? I haven't taken any more photos since it occurred, so I am hoping they are still hiding there.
I've investigated online steps to recover it and tried the Remo Recover for Android software, but the phone wont let me perform the step of "Enabling USB Mass Storage" on it (it's greyed out) so the software doesn't recognise the phone is plugged in.
This is the final frustration with this new phone that has been plaguing me with issues since I did the phone software update thursday week ago: not recvieving text messages people have sent, some of mine texts not going through, the speaker sound getting softer and softer (I almost couldn't hear what google maps directions were being said when driving), it randomly deciding not swich to silent instead of ringtone, the camera putting a line down lots of photos I've taken. I'm ready to chuck it at the wall!
Any help would be so appreciated!! I just want to get these photos back before trying to problem solve the other issues the phone is giving me.
You will need to root your phone and by doing so you will delete the pictures, now, were the photos stored on the internal storage or SD card, if the later then you are out of luck, unless someone has another method
you can at least connect your phone to a PC > go to computer > xperia Z1 Compact > DCIM > thumbnails, you might be able to recover at least some of the pictures
Thanks Uliwooly!
I can't tell where they were saved - how do I find that out??
Pictures were saved on internal or SD card-DCIM.But you could try Recuva, see if that recovers some of the photos.
open the camera > check the settings > scroll to the bottom it will say either Internal Storage or SD card
or connect your phone to a PC
Computer > Xperia Z1 Compact > SD card > look for a DCIM > 100Andro folder
THanks again Uniwooly - it says they were on the internal storage. I'm going to have a try of your steps and see what I can find.
Thanks Axledon - I'll have a go at that software if I can't find them.
I appreciate you both taking the time to respond.
Ok,keep us updated.
I really hope you can get your photos back, for future reference, backup your photos with G+ or a computer once a week
Recurva won't work with the internal Storage or the SD card still in the phone, since it connects via MTP/PTP to the PC and not over UMS - so Recurva does not see the physical Storage.
If the Pictures were stored on the SD card - remove the card, put it in a Card Reader and then try Recurva or similar recovery software.
This might sound so lame. but can you please explain how to recover with a Mac laptop? Thank you
