Headset volume down key problem with STH30

Hello!

I just bought a Sony STH30 Stereo Headset for my Xperia Z1.

But when pressing the "Volume down" button on my headset, the key is hold for 5 to 10 seconds.

This only happens on the Xperia Z1, it's working fine on other phones.

It also works pretty fine when changing the volume of an active call - it only happens when trying to lower the volume of the phone or music.

Greetings from germany,

Daniel

I have the exact same problem.

I tested 2 headsets and multiple android devices

I can confirm that it is a problem of Xperia Z1, the phone.

STH30 works with other android devices.

I have tested another Headset from JBL with volume controls, on Z1, it behaves the same, the volume down key randomly get stuck in "long press".

When it is stuck in vol- long press, other keys are non-responsive.

I checked the keypress info using the following app.

https://github.com/chrisboyle/keytest/downloads

It says the volume down key has increasing repeat count,

I don't know whether STH30 works with other sony phone. The android devices that I tested are from other brands.

My phone has the latest firmware 14.4.A.157, I am not sure if this is a hardware bug or it can be fix by software updates. So far no solution can be found.

I faced the same issue but the following helped me solve it...
My phone: Xperia Z1 C6902 (Rooted), Android: 4.4.4
Earphones: LG gflex (has volume rockers and headsethook)
Issue: volume down rocker of headset causes repeated volume reduction
Pls note the following may not require root access.
I was tryimg to make my phone a universal remote and made a circuit with ir leds and headset pin.
For this i installed an application called ZaZaremote (available in play store). The circuit dint work on my phone but worked on another phone (infocus m2).
I suddenly realised that when i opened zazaremote and closed it, volume down rocker worked as it should.
The problem was solved tentatively but it repeated itself sometimes.
Then playing around with the phone a little bit i found that xperia connect, walkman and audio enhancements could be causing the issue. I disabled them and the problem did not repeat till now (its been a week).
When i enabled them once the problem repeated. Again opening and closing zazaremote solved it.
The only logic in this solution is that zazaremote chenges audio settings to set it for ir blaster.
Pls note that the solution might not work for everyone.
Finding the exact reason why zazaremote solves it may help everyone.
I'm new to writing threads. Correct me if i made any mistakes.

Note that zazaremote disables microphone. You may have to force stop zazaremote and restart phone. But doing so will cause the problem again irrespective of whether you have diabled walkman, connect and enhancements or not.
Its a relief that its not a hardware issue.Software updates or other tweaks for rooted devices will solve the issue.
