Hi! As i understand Xperia ZR dont have video hardware acceleration in apps and also for videos that i play in the internet browser (chrome browser). I tried different apps but it seems that video hardware acceleration is working only in youtube app - hd quality videos plays perfectly in youtube. If the video in app or browser isn't in high bitrate it plays smoothly but if the video is high bitrate or hd format then playback is choppy. It depends on codecs that are hardware accelerated or it is something else?
Question: maybe there are some tweaks (build.prop or other system tweaks) to get videos in apps and browser hardware accelerated?
Hi,
The phone does support hardware decoding, but it's up to the applications itself to be coded to use the hardware and not the software for the application. YouTube as you mention, do support this because the app is written to use the hardware and not the software. Other examples for apps that uses the hardware is MX Player which you can test.
Thanks for reply. Yes - hardware acceleration in Xperia ZR works perfectly in MX Player.
If hardware acceleration depends on app setiings it's just interesting for what type of phones some apps are written if video cant be played smoothly with 1.5 ghz quad core cpu... And i'm talking about apps for official tv channels, for big TV companies channels
Unfortunately, I do not have a list with the apps that supports hardware acceleration. But in general, the most common video player apps do have this support.
