Handset Data Missing

I've done a quick search and nothing specifically matches this issue.

I checked my 'phone earlier today, and it was at the start of the procedure as if the handset had just been reset.  NFC was also active.

I power cycled the handset, but the issue still persists.

I've never used the NFC feautre, and was thinking the handset might have been hacked and NFC was used to wipe the memory.

I don't have too much information missing, but would like to recover Contacts, Messages and Notes. Contacts is showing about 4.3 Mb, Messaging and Notes similar, so I'm thinking the original data might still be there?

Two questions then - how did the phone come to reset itself?  Was it hacked?  (I had used it for most of the day without any issues)

Is the data above recoverable in an way?

hard to tell, if you download apps from other websites they might contain malware, there are myriad ways that your info was deleted, does anyone else has access to your Gmail password?
