I downloaded Handcent from the Android market. This is a great application for sending sms's and mms's, but when I send a message it is delivered twice. That is because the default message application is still installed on the phone and the message is therefor automatically send through Handcent and the default message app. Can I delete the default message app from my phone without corrupting the software on the phone? I don't want to implement the factory reset on my phone, have too many apps that I don't want to loose or reinstall.
i turned the handcent ones off so i only get one notification but i still use handcent as my main messaging app
Am I understanding right... your phone is sending two messages - one from the handcent and one from the stock app?
I have been using Handcent since day one and have never had this. To be honest, I haven't heard of it on any of the forums I use. You could always send an email to the developer, his details are on the app details in your downloads section in the market.
I did, like the other poster, have two notifications on receipt of an email but I don't think that's what you were saying.
Thanks for the advice. If I send a message from handcent the message will also appear on the standard message app (message version 4) on the phone, the same will also happen with incoming sms's. My friends say that when I send a sms to them that they receive it twice. So now I'm thinking of deleting the standard message app from my phone and only use the handcent app, but I'm not sure if this will cause a problem with the messaging software of the phone. I will contact the developer of handcent anyway. Thanks.
All you have to do is go to the stock Messaging app's settings and turn off notifications for it and this will solve you dual notification problem. As for people receiving double messages, I'm not really sure what to tell you there as I have not experienced this myself and I too have been using Handcent SMS for a long time. In fact, I may have been the one to recommend it to suze who replied here already.
You may have done this already but you could try setting Handcent as the default messaging app and see if that helps with the dual message sending. Hope this helps!
By the way, I don't think you can remove the stock Messaging app without rooting your phone and it may also give you some software problems if you do so (not sure about this part though).
Hi.
I got handscent recently and was very hapy with the lock feature.
But discovered soon that my default messaging app is still accessible without lock.
Is there and workaround to remove the same . Or maybe put a lock to it...
Lock feature in Handcent SMS locks only that application. If you want to lock your default messaging application download an application named ES Security from the market.
