Hello Sony and other users
If updated my Neo last week from the stock firmware to 2.3.3 build 4.0.A.2.368.
After that I have issues with GPS signal (DOP). Programs like RunGPS, Google Maps and Navigon loses GPS signal exactly every 5 minutes für about 30 seconds. After that, the DOP is good again. Sometimes it helps to restart the phone, sometimes not. I've tried to find out if it depends, which programs are in the memory but nothing is really obvious.
The issue looks like this:
Yesterday I've updated to 2.3.4 4.0.2.A.0.42, but the issue is the same. I've read in another forum that sometimes an update of Googe maps could cause this problem. So I've deinstalled the last update of Goggle maps. Before that I had this issue, directly after that it was gone, but it came back although I did not install the update of googe maps again (Auto update was disabled).
Before the firmware updates I did not have this issues.
What can I do? Are there some log files, which can help? Any idea?
With this issue the GPS is not really usable. Is it possible to downgrade?
Thanks
Thank you for sharing this info.
Like caspita other people that i know have the same issue .... and this is the last news ... it also affected Xperia ARC and ARC S !!!!
so this firmware 2.3.4 has been a disaster for the gps, like the build 4.0.xxx238 with 2.3.3
Few seconds ago, i contacted a friend, and he reported me this:
with data On the gps works well
with data Off it started to drop
some italian forums speak about the issue, but most of users have connection data so are not interested completely in the problem because don't see it and don't write in this forum, but when they try to disable data, the issue turns out
so ... no more words, now we NEED FACTS !!!
Like a friends of marrrco last night I did a test using a navigation system with data traffic on and gps has worked well as data traffic has been shut down has begun to lose the GPS signal
Few time ago (in my country) has been released a new firmware 4.xxx.0.62.
Did someone try it? I don't think there is a solution for the gps bug because this discussion started after the build was created, but would be good try the same
who start ?
If you want I could try it without problems, but I do not find any official update. Where I can retrieve it?
Only if you want, but probably for Arc is not available yet in our country.
For Neo i know there is. ( Is so nice speak in english
ihihihi)
However if someone try, please, give the results here about gps.
Other experiences from other boys
A friend say me this: He could navigate for about 60 minutes with traffic data on, and the gps worked well
today he has tried to navigate again, and also with data on, the gps started to drop out every 5 minutes
this seem to be a case similar to JojoNeo
the friend's phone is an Arc
A friend say me to translate his experience.
He has got ARC with build 4.0.2.A.0.42.
"Hello
I give you further information on my connection "data." So the situation is this:
I've enabled the 2G and not 3G because my company actually prevents the connection data but 2G works well with WAP connection.
Yesterday, when I had the same problem was still on 2G from Milano to Brescia and all the way showed the usual dropsout of GPS every 5 minutes.
One thing is certain, my data connection has always been 2G (wap) and Sygic has always worked fine until 7-8 days ago, when I disabled it.
At this point the problems began to emerge.
2 days ago I again enabled data and gps worked fine in a route of about 1 hour.
So the matter of the failure of yesterday from Milano to Brescia makes me think of a transient non-availability Wap happened already in the past. That's all. "
Hello All
I think its wrong to believe that this is only a problem with data connection on.
The problem definitly also exists with data on, but its more difficult to find!
Some days it works, some not and I'm tired to search for the reason.
Sony should do their job and should solve the problem soon. One thing is sure.
This was my first and my last Sony phone.
What is about their quality management?
Where is the test plan for the GPS functionality?
What where the results of the prerelease tests?
If the problem was not detected during the tests, did they update their test plan now?
And I would assume, that ALL 2011 Android phones with android are affected.
Many people do not use the GPS often, some others do not recognize that something is wrong with the GPS and other just returned their phones because the GPS is "bad". If you find 10 people with the problem in these forums you have thousands of others with the same problem.
And I bet that Sony already knows the reason but its difficult to solve because of the implementation of Sony stuff in the core of Android just to be different to other Android phones.
SONY! A phone must work, everything else doesn't matter. I do not need timescape and other Sony *B+U.L-L:S/H)I"T.
If the problem is not solved within the next week I will give it back because of a not working GPS, thats it.
Last message from me. The next time you hear from me is the confirmation, that with the new firmware the GPS works ;-).
Bye
Do you mean a application you said can fix the problem? What applicaiton?
I recently found my SK17i's GPS not working. The andriod version 2.3.4 and build 4.0.2.A.0.58.
I go to SE service sation yesterday, and the poor stuff said it was find even without a further check.
Can you help?
Hello,
i got the same problem here since i updatet my SE neo to FW 2.3.4 (4.0.2.A.0.42). Every 5 minutes the mobile lost the gps connection for about 30 sec. when data connection is off. This is a not acceptable bug for using this mobile correctly. It makes me a bit angry now that i can't use my Navigon software in a proper way. Activating the flight mode can't be a compromise. Please Sony, fix that meanwhile well known bug !!!
