GPS icon always on in top bar

Hi all,

My problem is that a few hours after I boot my Xperia M4 Aqua, the GPS icon appears and is stuck at this position until I disable GPS completely or I restart the phone.

I'm starting to believe I have a defective unit, or is it something that can be solved easily?

Thanks for your help!

Are you using a protective case with a magnet?

Settings, location, how accurate is your GPS?

I'm not using any protective case.

GPS is set to High Precision and is very accurate.

Try booting on safe mode and check it again.

Of course I could try this, but as I said, it can take hours before the GPS icon appears after startup. Problem is then it is always stuck, even though GPS is not in use according to battery consumption chart.

That's an creating this issue, maybe a fit app, or a taskiller, Antivirus, etc, that are keeping track of your location

The same thing happened overnight with the phone on safe mode.

The GPS icon is always on from the moment it is used by an app.

Guess my phone is defective and I'll have to exchange it...

It is there because your location serivce is on (in settings). Turn off the Location serivce under 'Settings',  'Location'.

If you want the location service to be on but do not want to see the icon, switch off the notification from the status bar under 'Settings', 'Personalization', 'Status bar icons', uncheck 'Location'. Your phone will still obtain your location, but without informing you at the status bar. Do set the Location service to be 'Battery saving' mode before doing this because leaving it at 'High accuracy' mode(using GPS sensor) will drain off your battery.

Location service is definitely on. However, the icon only appears when an app first uses it. It can be hours after a startup. Then the icon is always on.

I know I can remove the icon the way you mention it. However, it is not the icon itself that annoys me. It is that it indicates a GPS problem. It cannot turn off by itself... What you suggest is like removing the check engine light of a car. Of course it doesn't light, but there is still a problem...

@Doomdrou

What I would do is reinstall the latest update with PCC > use it like that for a day or so w/o installing any app from the playstore

PC Companion (PCC)

Bridge (for Mac)
