Just purchased the C6906 and notice that the firmware it arrived with is 14.4.A.0.108 (Android 4.4.4).
I've installed PC Companion and both the app and the phone have notified me of an available update. The phone itself is reporting the update to be 14.4.A.0.108 (approx. 2mb's in size) which makes no sense to me since it's already installed on the phone. PC Companion has identified and apparently downloaded the available update as 14.5.A.0.242 (Android 5.0.2).
I noted that there are a series of steps that PC Companion performs as part of the update procedure. I cancelled the procedure prior to the start of the third step which appears to be the actual flashing of the firmware because I wanted to check the forums here and at XDA for opinions of its stability.
Feelings on the new firmware tend to be mixed overall and that has caused me some concern, and I've yet to find the C6906 variant of the firmware the phone currently has installed (14.4.A.0.108) in the event I want to rollback. The fact that this particular firmware is reportedly easy to root appeals to me since I root all of my android devices.
My question is this: I've done the research and found that PC Companion backs up firmware before updating the phone, placing the necessary files in a folder labelled "blob_fs". But what isn't spelled out is whether this folder contains a copy of the device's existing 14.4.A.0.108 firmware or a copy of the newly downloaded 14.5.A.0.242 firmware which I cannot seem to locate on my computer. Does PC Companion push it to the phone at some point during the procedure? If so would a factory reset or a repair done thru PC Companion eliminate the update file from the phone?
