After PC companion noted that the new update is avsailable - i just started to follow the instructions.
First it was downloading some programm, then second was a preparation of the phone, but than the phone shut off and till this moment it is DEAD.
Current situation - If the usb or power cable is connecfted, the phone swithches on till SONY logo and then turned off again.
No reset helping.

I'd love to know how many of these issues are self inflicted by either interupting the update process when it is expressly forbidden with warnings or having previously installed unapproved apps or antivirus software
these events seem very unusual
hope you guys get it sorted
let us know if you can shed any light on the issue

My Xperia Z was in this state too last night.
1. Launch "SONY PC Companion" without the phone.
2. Start "Support Zone".
3. Start "Phone Software Update". (Could not find the phone.)
4. Click on the link "repair my phone"
*Data will be lost on the phone's internal memory, SD card will be safe.
(Somewhere in the processes, it will ask you to install Sony Ericsson UpdateEngine.
Sony_Ericsson_Update_Engine_Setup-2.13.4.16.exe was downloaded.)
(Installed SE Update Engine and exit SONY PC Companion and restart Step 1 through 4.)
5. Following the rest of the on-screen instructions.
(Download Updates for all phones ... connect phone to PC while holding volume down.)
My Xperia Z is working again. Good luck!
It helped
But all info, photos and other private stuff deleted
if you synced your contacts with Google it should be there, phonebook > menu > filter > google contacts
also your pictures should still be there.
@GeoffH Update was not interupted in any shape or form.
The restart that happens after the software is pushed on the phone caused this.
Soft reset didnt work, and when I plug in the charger the phone goes into continuous bootloop.
Reading other forums suggested to drain the battery out and recharge but as I had almost 90% battery this is going to be a long while.
I tried SUS yesterday but I believe my battery is now less than 50% (36hours after the issue first started) thus it wont allow it to continue
I will wait another 24 hours for the battery to drain then will post an update here whether that fixed the issue or I sent my phone back.
Thanks @dcyttw for posting something constructive.
Congrajulations @astral.
I wonder if there is a fault with the actual firmware released to specific countries - if that is the case then it is a serious oversight with Sony
