does Update service prompts ?

There was an update to check with Update service for ICS update futher.

Want know wheter update service will tell that there is an update that is going to install during the steps of update ??

This is when user adds xperia mobile and follow the basic steps of long press to return key etc... and all.

Yes if an update is available for your device then sure there will be a service prompt.

make sure you are connected to internet via pc companion or wifi/gprs.

And if your device is in online mode ( working condition ) you dont have to long press the return key for update, when pcc fails to recognize your device it will ask you to follow the steps like you said "long press back key"
