Disable Managed Roaming

Phone: Xperia Z3+
Android 5.0
Area: Managed Roaming, not! data roaming, not international roaming
Problem: in an area with bad mobile network coverage, with network search on Manual, phone prompts me every 15sec to initiate network search.
This is extremely annoying!
Any remedy, any settings I can change?
I live close to a border, so turning on automatic network search is not an option for me.
Thank you!!

@NeoBeum might have the only option to turn off the radios on plane mode

Thank you for your suggestions - but flight mode or "airplane mode" would not help, as this would de-activate the Wifi connection too. And the Wifi (WLAN in Germany) is working just fine.

Is there a setting that you could manually set to only work on that type... like GSM only or something? but set it to something older (I dunno... maybe GPRS or WAP if that's still an option on the phones these days) that doesn't exist, so it will never actually find it and never search for anything else... I'm not sure what networks run in Germany, I'm in Australia.

I used my X10mini as a walkie talkie by installing Whatsapp on it when my simcard was in it, registering the number to the x10m, then removing the sim card, and have it only use WIFI... maybe you could try something like that

The moment you restart the phone by removing the SIM card > open whatsapp > it won't allow you to use it unless you insert a SIM card. If there's a way around it do share it.

I have an old APK of it... but now that you mention it, I'm wondering if it's because the mini is rooted

edit: I'll have another look on the mini, it's in my cupboard, I only use it when my cousin was around

I got curious so I booted up some of my old gear... and I can still log in to whatsapp without a sim. The x10mini is the rooted phone, the other is not, on standard rom ... at first both gave me the incorrect date error, but I was able to fix it on the samsung, the x10 mini wouldn't let me change anything yet, because I haven't signed in to a google account, as my main one has 2 factor, and I don't think that version of android will support the log in style. I just freshly installed Whatsapp on to the xCover(samsung). But after that initial error, and me forgetting to pull out one of my test SIM cards on it, it came up with that date error. Once I changed it again, to correct date, it was able to log me in and post a message to one of the group chats I have set up

I took the photo on the Z5C, which currently has the active sim card on it and whatsapp

I received the verification pin on the Z5C and just punched it into the XCover... turned the phone off, and on, and its working

and just a test message

I also highlighted the icon that pops up when you dont have a sim card inserted on the samsung phones

With all of that still working the way I remember, you should be able to use it for video chat aswell... I remember I was video calling myself

Cool, thanks, I'll test it out.
