dialer hangs

Hi

I am using xperia x 10 and i am facing the following probelm

During a call i am unable to use the other features of the phone for e.g. i am unable to use the dialer during a call.. i am unable to use the speaker phone or any other option during a call..

The touch screen stops working ...... I have no idea what is happening?

Please help me out with the above issue.

Might you be inadvertently covering the proximity sensor?  That is the thing that prevents you from accidentally accessing functions with your ear or face in the middle of a call.  The sensor is just above the visible part of the screen, somewhere near the 'n' in 'Sony Ericsson'.  If your hand were to cover this, it would stop the phone from doing much else until the sensor is uncovered.

i think tht was nt the case becz i have tested this error by makin a call to my other number and testing why the screen is not allowing me to  use the dialer in between the call and as soon the call ends all the buttons starts working?

Oh good.  You probably just need to get used to holding it differently.  There is so much that is not in the manual...
