What data costs are involved using gps navigation on pay as you go vodafone ?

You don't need a data plan to use google maps, you can open google maps with WiFi then make the map available offline and turn off your data plan and use the map and gps, contact vodafone for more info

Thanks for quick reply..but maybe Iam missing something.

Basically I have had voda pay as you go for a number of years on different phones (just upgraded with sim free phones).

Now I have the xperia e (sim free) I am trying to find out if I use the( built) in navigation app while driving will it trash my phone credit.

Or maybe a contract would be better or cheaper.

if you use the navigation app it will use/require data, if its only the map app it doesn't as you can make it available offline

Any idea of costs involved on pay as you go .....£1 a mile etc....

I can't help you with that, I don't have vodafone, nor live in the UK, I'm in the USA
