Contact names disappearing following a restore from backup - HELP!

Hi, I hope someone can help... I did not have enough spare storage to my device so bought a SanDisk 16GB Micro card and installed this (as a side-note I was making extra space to install the new Software Update and did not want to remove anything from my device, simply transfer some things [photos etc] to the Micro card])...

OK, a quick trip to Tesco and had my card, installed it and there was an issue transferring my data (some 'interruption message' - cant quite remember it exactly), but dod 'Google' it and the general advice was to back-up the device and perform a Factory reset, and then restore from back-up.

Device backed up OK (using Xperia Companion for Mac) and phone was suitably reset.

Restoring from back-up gives me a spurious problem! When I open my call log all the names present themselves correctly for a few seconds and then revert back to the numbers almost immediately.  After 10 seconds my entire call log is simply numbers, my restored messages are number-aliases not names and my contacts list is only 7 long (my prior one was over 200!).  If I choose to restore the 'contacts only' through Xperia Companion (leaving my call log open on my phone), within 30 seconds I see my contact list names reapper instead of the numbers.  I follow the on-screen instructions and restart my phone, open the call log and see them revert to numbers in front of my eyes again... I have done this a few times now...

So I know the names are stored correctly as they appear correctly (albeit for a short while) but what am I doing wrong?

My iMac is fully updated (I'm a stickler for software updates, hence this whole process in the first place!)... and my phone was fully updated before trying this...

I have scoured the forums and followed other advice (checking filters, Settings>Apps>Contacts>Force Stop [& restarting]) - nothing is working!

I use my mobile for my work and am seriously looking at ditching this for an iPhone (my previous Z1 lost my contacts following a software update so I bought a Z2!)

Thanks for any help that is available!

Si

If it helps.... I have done this for yet another time and I am getting the following information upon completion of restore:

The following content could not be restored:

Other

bbc.mobile.news.uk

Settings

Hope this helps!

Oh... and none of my apps are reinstalled following a restore! (not sure if this is normal (they do with Apple devices))

@SPBradley

If the backup was done through XC you should be able to restore most of your data, BUT Android doesn't support a backup/restore as iOS.

Could you check the phone app > contacts > menu > filter > select everything.

Thanks,

I am trying to restore my data to an existing Xperia Z2 - the data is there, but disappears...

I am only considering the iPhone as I have lots of Apple devices and they just work... if I have to start from scratch for a 2nd time I would like to do this on a device that I don't need to do this again...

Thanks

@SPBradley

Just to clarify, the backup data it's from the Z1 or the Z2?

The backup data is from the Z2... I no longer use or have the Z1...

I backed up my Z2 and then restored the same device, updated the software and restored from backup to the same device

Thanks

@SPBradley

Could you try the filter suggestion?
