Connecting Xperia Tipo to Sony S Tablet via USB

Hi, I have a Tipo smartphone and want to connect it to my Tablet.  I have tried and failed connecting them through bluetooth, so I bought a usb adapter, but when I plug this into both phone and tablet, the tablet pops up a little box stating usb is not compatible. I'm not technical with all this so any help or advice will be appreciated.  Thanks Mel

What kind of functionality are you looking for? Transferring files in between the two units or what kind of interaction?
