I use a wifi hotspot which has a login page right at the start. I login from this page using my hotspot account and only then am able to surf the internet.
It is an https address. It used to open good, but recently (i don't know when exactly or after what point) its started showing an error each time i try to access my wifi.
It shows this error:"Communication error. Try again, turn off Wi-Fi or contact your provider for support."
Other times, it loads half the page (everything except the username/password textboxes) and says "secure connection failed."
This is pretty annoying. This means I can't surf ANY internet from my phone anymore (as i can't login to my account). I've updated my phone software(quite a while back, and it says latest version now.) I then thought it was something to do with my network internet settings, so i deleted them too (internet account settings,) as i figured something from the network shouldn't be able to mess with my wifi settings etc.
I know for sure that its not the router problem. 1.Its a hotspot, and 2. im using it right now to post this.
Please help. Thanks.
So have you tried any other hot-spots/routers with your phone?
I've tried it at home on my home router and it works perfectly (which requires a router key unlike this). I'm guessing the problem is because the opening page is an https page (though the problem could be something else.) Haven't tried at any other "hotspot" though.
I just asked my friend to try using this hotspot with his nokia n86 wifi, and it worked. The login page came up proper, he logged in, and was able to surf the internet, so the problem is definitely in my phone and not the hotspot.
That doesn't necessarily mean there's something wrong with your phone, especially since it works fine with your home router.Comparing it to a Nokia isn't exactly ideal, as you're dealing with a different brand altogether.
It could simply be that the ho-spot's hub settings have been changed, so perhaps you should try a few more hot-spots before you blame the phone.
Will do that asap. Hope it clears things.
Anyway, if its the hotspot hub settings, then would the same thing apply for all sony ericsson phones?? (i mean not being able to login, etc.)
Not necessarily, unless you're comparing with the same model.
Just checked. My friend's got an aino too. But yea, it could be the network's problem, because apparently though she could connect and login, it was really slow. I'm guessing (now) that the error is shown because of timeout?
Yeah, it's unlikely to be a fault with your phone.
Faced the same in my Ericsson Elm (J10i). In the default Internet browser (NetFront) secured pages (HTTPs) did not work for me, although SSL/TLS worked in Email. The solution was to turn off Elm » Menu » Settings » Connectivity » Content sharing » Save. of course, I had to select an (any) account before. Many kudos to DajaFung!
Now, I did not get an error but a warning ‘The secure connection cannot be verified’ and was able to continue.
By the way, the latter happened because these Ericssons do not know many certificate authorities (CA; Elm » Menu » Settings » General » Security » Certificates » Trusted certificates). I was able to beam the missing CA over via Bluetooth. Now, there is no error message at all.
