Cannot restore Backup data on Z2 Android 5.0

Hi everyone,

So I just been upgrading my Xperia Z2. The phone was on Android 4.4.2 when I used the Backup & Restore application to backup my System apps data, and some of my Downloaded apps with data. I had to upgrade to 4.4.4. I think it was a mistake that I didn't make a backup on 4.4.4 as well. Now I've upgraded to 5.0, and all of my apps & settings were kept, but I wanted to start clean, so I did a factory reset.

Now when I'm trying to use the Backup & Restore app again to Restore the backup file I made on 4.4.2, a window pops up saying "Cannot restore, Selected backup records cannot be used due to incompatible software versions. Please select a more recent backup file."

So the backup files are present, everything else works on the Z2...my question would be what should I do now to be able to restore my backups?

Sorry to hear you have issues with this. Unfortunately,this is how it works. You could try to rename the .dbk file to .rar or .zip and see if you are allowed to extract some files.

Sorry to say this but you can't unless you downgrade to 4.4

May I ask where can I find the .dbk file?

How can I downgrade it? I guess that's not so hard, so if you want me to google it instead it's fine, ignore this then :).

BTW I found that I still have the app data files in the Android folder. Does that mean if I reinstall those apps then it will automatically set back the datas assigned to them?

If you have used the inbuilt option,you might not be able to find it. However,you could look in internal memory or microSD memory for any .dbk files.

Am facing a similar problem. I sent my phone to Sony to get it fixed and they updated the software now my 4.4.4 backups won't get restored. Have you found a solution yet???

The back of my z2 cracked during the winter so 3 weeks ago i sent it to sony so that they could fix my back glass, by the that l had not received lollipop at here in the US it was not yet available. So they asked me to backup my information as they would reset the phone when it got to them. So i tried to backup using PC companion and i failed so i decided to backup on my SD card using the backup and restore application in the applications menu. So this week they sent the phone back to me and it had been a update to lollipop, when i tried to restore my backuped data from my SD card it would not let me with an error message saying there is incompatibility or OS. I call sony to help me about it they could not help me

you could retrieve your contacts if you can access the dbk file
