Cannot complete Xperia sola ICS update.. Plz help

I m trying to update my new xperia sola to android 4 through PC companion. After preparing for update the application is asking to switch off the phone and reconnect it by pressing  volumn down key. I did the same but nothing is happening and update is not proceeding. Anybody plz help me to sort out this issue.. Is there any other way to do this update without using PC companion.. Pls suggest me

The most common cause of this not working is when you either powered it back on before connecting or were not holding the button down prior to connecting the phone.

Hi Asish, this is the weird part of sola...

Because you're not allowed to remove the battery, you can't really force it to go into the REAL download mode (you will only ended  up to Charging)...

To FORCE it,

while the phone shows Charging status after you shut down,

hold the Off and Up Volume keys and don't let go until the phone vibrates 3 times (not 1 time) and the screen will off as well as the LED...

Retry the steps again by pressing Off and Down buttons the same time and hopefully Green LED shows up (but not the screen) and your computer begins to detect and install drivers for your phone...

*and please mark answers Helpful or Correct!

Thanks trubo for the reply.. i have 1 doubt. When do i need to press the volumn up key and off button? is it when we are asked to connect phone by pressing volumn down key after turning off the phone?

FUN FACT:

Though Sony said that you need to completely shut down the phone, that doesn't applies to sola as once it connected to the USB, the phone detected there's electrical supply and boots up itself and begins charging... (That's not even a complete SHUT DOWN!)

While connected to the USB (don't care what the SUS orders), please shut down the phone...

Next (still connected to USB), phone shows SONY logo and begins Charging...

At this point, hold the Off and Up Volume keys at the same time until 3 vibrations coming from the phone... :3
