Can´t insert SIM card

Hello,

I recieved my Xperia mini today and I have a problem with the SIM card slot. When I try to push the SIM card into

the slot only about the first three millimeters go in and then it blocks, almost as if something was was already in there.I take it that the SIM

should normaly just slip in to the slot with only slight resistance. Am I missing something or have i been unlucky and the slot has a defect?

The SIM is in the correct position and the right way round.

Thanks for any help.

I remember being confused by this when I got mine as it was none-too-clear to me where the SIM is supposed to go.  It actually slots underneath the memory card (in a separate slot underneath the battery) at a right angle to the memory card.  Is that where you are trying to put it?

The slot I am trying is at the top of the handset to the right of the camera lens (only accessible when battery is removed). There is a small diagram of a SIM and an arrow points to the slot I am using. I can´t see a second slot near the memory card (SD card). The slot I am using is at a right angle to the memory slot, but the memory slot is closer to the bottom of the handset. Thanks for answering.

Sounds like you are in the right place then.  The arrow points the direction you insert the sim & but not to the actual slot, which is just to the left of where the arrow points as you look at it. And you can't miss it really, it's the SIM-shaped recess to the left of the white sticker & beneath the silver panel.

I just took mine out & there was a fair bit of resistance to me pushing it back in - those gold connectors are sprung to hold the SIM in place once you get it in there.  Push the SIM against those 3 sprung gold pins to pop them back then see if it will go in.

The slot is slightly to left of the arrow yes so it is the right slot. When i hold the phone at an angle i can see the 3 gold pins and a little deeper inside is what appears to be a metal bracket. It seems that the SIM after passing the gold pins should slide under the bracket.

When I try to insert the SIM, it is a bit awkward to see, but edge of the SIM seem´s to enter under the bracket and then it blocks and wont move even a millimeter. It always blocks at the same point.

To be honest, the SIM bends and will probably break soon. I am sure there shouldn´t be a need to apply so much force. Thanks for helping.

OK I just took the back off mine again.  On mine you can see the gold pins at any angle, but need to tilt it to see the silver-coloured bracket.  The SIM does indeed slide underneath that bracket.

I've noticed that if you try to slide the SIM in along either 'wall' of the SIM recess, it won't go in, so a tiny movement to the right or to the left while trying to slide down might help.  But the easiest way I found to get the sim in, is to present the bottom of the SIM (the short edge without the cut corner) directly onto those gold pins, then move the SIM down so it's almost flat against the SIM recess then slide it in.

Apart from that, I really don't know what else to suggest, other than if your SIM came on a bigger plastic card & you had to punch it out, perhaps there is a jagged bit of plastic that is physically stopping the SIM from going into the slot?

Good luck & let me know how you get on anyway.

@ Crockret, Just to let you know, nothing could be done about the SIM slot, I had to return the handset to dealer. Thanks for being so helpful.
