Camera - xperia s - focusing problems and poor images

Firstly this phone is fantastic and I have already conmverted several friends from apple to sony.

Last night I though I would really test it out - went out with a few mates, each with different phones and every time the Nokia N8 took better pictures.

Honestly - my xperia took ages to focus and 5 out of 9 shots were very very poor. In direct comparision the N8 - once he had it set up, took photos faster and each one was in focus - non of this waiting while it figures out what its doing,.

In day light - mine wins no problem - in pubs and low light areas I found this phone to have major problems with focus, and tiime delay in pressing and actual capture of images --- dont get me wrong - I can take it out of my pocket - press the button and hey presto - a photo very very quick --but what is the point when its not in focus and then I have to try again, then again, by which time, my mates are laughing as they have unlocked their phone, aimed and took a good photo.

SONY -- please look into this --  is this my handset or systemic?

Looking at the response this is systemic - if this is a software issue then please sort it, if hardware - recall and replace.

For those of you with the problem - the best photos I can get are to disable face detection, scenes to OFF,,focus mode - have it on touch or infinity, metering centre. At least on these settings I get more than 1 out of 10 photos which I can use.

THIS IS STILL AN ISSUE!!! SONY PLEASE RESPOND!

There is an led notification app you can download.

Maybe they really don't have any answers yet or they keep it deliberately silent.

I think they also look at how many people are complaining or have the same issues. Not everyone has issues with the phone and most of the people accept the phone as it is.

I'm also a Sony fan and hope Sony will do better than Samsung. They must innovate, offer good support and good value for money.

Why was Wayfactory's post deleted? That was a question i think everybody wanted an answer to... I know i did... Brilliant question wayfactory... Soooooo.... Lets see, it seems that just about the only person on this earth that is happy with the Xperia S is old Uliwooly... Everyone else is pretty much dissapointed.. And yet, no one can tell us why this is happening? So uliwooly... Has it come down to the point where we all have to accept the fact that we bought a dissapointing phone? Accept that we have been decieved by advertising? Accept that Sony isnt going to answer questions or do anything about the hundreds of complaints on this discussion alone? .... If so, then i think Sony has to accept the fact that it just lost a huge fan base, something it really cant afford considering the options we have availible.

au contrari mon amie, I'm not happy with my Xperia S, I want more from it, the HD 1080p it's not as it should be compared to other smartphones w/ similar sensor

I would like a burst mode and bigger sensor, I don't like the design at all, I'm waiting for the Xperia GX or the Xperia Z (LT30/Mint) this last one it's supposed to have amazing lenses (Carl Zeiss)

but the GX has the Xperia Arc's design.

there's almost 100,000 views on this thread and almost 300 posts. this definitely not good for them (SONY), so why they wont give us answers? come on sony give some support, we pay 600 hundred dollars for a phone and we cant get a proper answer about this issue?

Do you know how many bottles of rum i could by with those 600 dollars? about 65. That's a lot of drunkenness my friend. lol

I have had my xperia s now for about 4 weeks, I am not impressed with the focusing and poor picture quality in low light and indoor flourescent light conditions. I don't use the camera often, but when i do I expect it to take a decent photo. My old phone (htc desire) took great photos. I thought 12MP would give me amazing photos, unfortunately I am sadly disappointed. If it is a software problem then please sort it soon, if not recall them and fix them.

no news on the GX the Z it's supposed to have an OLED 4.6 screen and 13mp camera w/ carl zeiss lenses, snapdragon S4 now that's quite impresive

welcome aboard, one more of us (disappointed costumer about the camera on the S'). as you can see in the whole thread they wont give us any answer about this.

thanks for the welcome luis_DR I just thought I needed to add my view to help to try make Sony do the decent thing.
