Camera - xperia s - focusing problems and poor images

Firstly this phone is fantastic and I have already conmverted several friends from apple to sony.

Last night I though I would really test it out - went out with a few mates, each with different phones and every time the Nokia N8 took better pictures.

Honestly - my xperia took ages to focus and 5 out of 9 shots were very very poor. In direct comparision the N8 - once he had it set up, took photos faster and each one was in focus - non of this waiting while it figures out what its doing,.

In day light - mine wins no problem - in pubs and low light areas I found this phone to have major problems with focus, and tiime delay in pressing and actual capture of images --- dont get me wrong - I can take it out of my pocket - press the button and hey presto - a photo very very quick --but what is the point when its not in focus and then I have to try again, then again, by which time, my mates are laughing as they have unlocked their phone, aimed and took a good photo.

SONY -- please look into this --  is this my handset or systemic?

Looking at the response this is systemic - if this is a software issue then please sort it, if hardware - recall and replace.

For those of you with the problem - the best photos I can get are to disable face detection, scenes to OFF,,focus mode - have it on touch or infinity, metering centre. At least on these settings I get more than 1 out of 10 photos which I can use.

THIS IS STILL AN ISSUE!!! SONY PLEASE RESPOND!

Too bad Sony didnt offer a choice to choose 5-7mpx option for the camera (I only have 12, 9 and 2 mpx options). May be under those settings SXS camera could live up to its potential.

I hope this gets really fixed, i am having a hard time trying to preset the camera when taking shots. Anyways do any of you guys can help me about the auto brightness settings. After updating to ICS I only have manual settings brightness.

I have the same problems here...pics and videos are getting blurred..focusing is really difficult...the quality of pics and hd videos is neither good (mostly indoors).. If I may tell, the 12 MP camera is not as good as what we expected..and what about other cam features like ISO, BURST MODE etc? I found none of those in my phone..bdw I've even upgraded it to Android Icecream Sandwich..maybe its hardware is a bit faulty! really frustrated..just been 2 days since I bought it! Please reply soon with a solution.

The update to ICS , ie firmware ends with .453 ( update to .452)  has fixed focussing issue to some extend... phone focuses more faster with scne recongintion and normal with different mode selected...

Are you that the firmware 6.1.A.0.452 fixes the problems with the camera?

Yeah I've upgraded it to ICS..and my current Firmware version is 6.1.A.0.452..and I'm observing some black boxes (maybe grey area) appearing suddenly on the photos i've taken with it..the 12 mp resolution too is really ridiculous! and there's some soought of sparkling and glitter on the screen at times..I think them as animation few times..but they appear very randomly..there are really many bugs maybe due ICS upgrade..i think GB was stable for this phone..I'm getting really impatient..its been oly 2 days since I've bought it.how can Sony being such a MNC release such a phone with so many os bugs..it is well known for its camera quality but still its a shame that XS camera (12mp) is really useless..a real waste of money I think even the cheapest phones of the new brands have no such s/w bugs;(..

PLZ HELP ME..! reply with some solution!

i have also do this i have give back my phone after replacing and GOT NEW SAMSUNG GALAXY NOTE (GT-N700) and it's amazing !

Camera is better than XS which is with blaw blaw blaw sensors and 12MP CAMERA(lol....) !

some problem with camera but not always and it is MUCH MORE BETTER THAN XS trust me !

I have also Message JOHAN FROM SONY but no REPLY as well !

I think SONY become CRAP like CHINA Company !

Hi nick ! .. the hardware of the XS is one of the best its not a hardware probs because before updated to ICS my phone was very good  best pictures                                                                                        look this  shooted with the XS under GB

                               its the update to ICS breaked all the quality of the phone  now impossible to make a good picture the camera can't focusing and sometimes need to remake 6, 8 ,10 time before have a picture clear     its crazy !   we expected our XS will better with ICS and its the opposite in lot ways wifi ,Battery, etc! etc! sometimes i ask myself if the developers tested their works in a real life use or just in laboratory maybe they are too busy with all the new Xperias come out    (excuse my english)
