Bugs in Android 4.0.4 update

The android 4 update works quite well on my xperia ray, for a 1GHz processor. I have to appreciate the work Sony has put in to make it work smooth, and I say this after handling other phones on ICS and seeing numerous videos on the internet.

But, there are some very basic issues in the update which are quite bugging, and are in no way related to processor speed.

One problem I am having is with ringtone. The set ringtone occassionally is reset to default 'beep' and the ringtone chooser says, 'unknown ringtone'. This is important as I tend to miss important calls for that.

Second, as mentioned in other discussions, there is a problem with the notification light and it often does not work (unlike its flawless functioning on gingerbread). This is also very inconvenient.

Third, and the most annoying of the bugs in my handset is with the Gallery. The phone somehow does not remove deleted pictures. As a result, all the thumbnails are mixed up in the gallery, and when a photo is selected, it just shows a magnified version of the thumbnail! Not only are thumbnails and their respective images all mixed-up, there are deleted images too which still show up as thumbnails, and this can be rather annoying. Good part is that, at least the current undeleted images are still there. Also, the 'Xperia Gallery' has been working fine so far.

There are other minor bugs, but I am not bothered so much with them yet.

PLEASE fix them, and send us an update.

Thank you.

Thanks for posting your feedback. I don't know when/if there will be a software update/patch to fix these problems you're mentioning but I will forward your comment to the developers so they at least have seen it.

It's not encouraging news.

Why no feedback from developers.

Hi,

I have also experienced the problem you have described below:

One problem I am having is with ringtone. The set ringtone occassionally is reset to default 'beep' and the ringtone chooser says, 'unknown ringtone'. This is important as I tend to miss important calls for that."

How did you fix it?

As for your gallery issue:

My understanding is that it's a general ice cream sandwich issue.  You can clear the thumbnail cache by clearing data for the "Media Storage" app.  however, it won't regenerate thumbnails for a folder until you put an image into that folder (for example by taking a new photo or copying an image file there).  I agree that it's really annoying, and ICS in general is also ignoring the use of the .nomedia file in a directory if you don't want the gallery to create thumbnails.

To the Xperia Support team,

Why is this thread in the "Assumed Answered" status when the issues that dadhya has brought up have not been addressed and no feedback given?  Can you please change the status of the thread to reflect the current situation?

Thanks!

Ben

We use the "assumed answered" feature on this forum in a way that can be a bit confusing.

On the main page on this forum there are two announcements, the second one is about this. Read that part and you will hopefully understand better.

So I guess this is the most appropriate thread.

I have contact ringtone problem on Xperia Pro after updating to ICS. Sounds are assigned as they were in GB but those contact ring with default tone. Strange, but it doesn't happen always and not for all the contacts. I have already deleted all SIM contacts to try preventing the problem but that didn't help. Also I do not have duplicate contacts.

I assigned the very same ringtones as used in GB, so I guess it has to do something with ICS update.

I see the problem is mentioned on Xperia S too. Also a friend of mine using another Xperia mentioned that has the very same problem. So, I assume it is not device dependent problem. Problems are present after ICS update.

Yesterday I've updated my Sony Xperia P to ICS and I see issue with Galery. Galery crashes each time I try to open it (I click Album icon to see my photos but I just see black screen for few sesonds and it looks like loading something but after that Album just closes with no result or errors).

I've tried to clead Album data and Media Storage data but it does not help.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance,

Mario

With the android 4.04 update, my Xperia U has been slowed to a grinding halt whenever I try to access messages or search google on the widget (whenever the keyboard shows it crashes). I have also had huge problems with the landscape orietation as the screen will go black but for the toolbar if I accidentally turn it while using the home screen/menu. No desrespect to the feature as it is a great addition but it is wholly unusable at current. Some major bug fixes are needed if you are not prepared to offer a downgrade for phones such as the Xperia U which clearly have less processing power and RAM and cannot handle this update. I can hardly use this phone after having it merely a month and I am very displeased.
