I bought my first ever Sony phone at the end of April, it was my birthday in May and I bought it as a special treat for me as I hadn't upgraded my phone, in years, in fact my old phone was a Nokia E75 which shows you how old it was. Anyway from the moment I received it, it was faulty. I tried everything through my network provider as I initially thought it could be my service with them. It wasn't picking up my network, it wasn't taking or receiving calls well. The battery would die quite quickly and even when I turned off all the applications as suggested it was using 500 g in a couple of days easy, when that much had always lasted me much longer. Anyway as a last resort my network provider sent me out a new Sim as it said that my old one was probably configured to my new phone. When it came I took the old Sim out and put the new one in without a problem. Except when I put the new Sim in it wouldnt let me access my phone at all and said that there ws No Sim entered. I tried several Sims with no success. So I rang the catalogue I ordered my phone through and told them about the problems I'd been having and how I thought there was something wrong with the Sim Card Reader and I sent it to the repair centre to be fixed. They have just sent me a quotation of £50 to have my phone repaired as it doesnt fall under warranty, as in their own words 'I broke the phone' my response was how could I possibly break it when I'd never been anything but gentle with the phone. The phone has no signs of forced entry or trauma the problem apparently is due to a missing rung or something. They state that in their opinion I 'forced' the SIM card into the slot and it broke. My frustration lies in the fact they have got me either way, because when you get a phone you don't physically take it apart and look inside it. It was a new phone that I literally got to use two weeks before it stopped working altogether, and when I got it the seal wasn't broken so I assumed everything was fine. Even when things started playing up I assumed it was the Network and I was on the phone constantly to them but when the SIm Card Reader stopped working I had to send it back. Its been in the repair centre longer than I've had it, it was there a good 6 weeks at a minimum. I am so frustrated and bitterly disappointed because I found the phone great other than that. It looked good. It felt good. I had gotten screen protectors and a protective casing to make sure it stayed pristine. I was starting to learn how to make my way around it. Now I just feel I have no trust. The catalogue said its all me, and because of that I'm not covered by my manufacturers warranty and I can't even defend my position because its something that happened within the phone. I am not a careless or clumsy person, I take care of the things I own, as you can see by my earlier comments re my old phone, which I have been forced to still use. Now my options are pay £10 to have the phone delivered back the way it is ie unusable. Pay £50 and have it fixed or do nothing and let them dispose of it, with a phone I've barely even used and havn't even paid for. I'm now left feeling that I don't know if I would buy another Sony product. I've had many phones over the years by many manufacturers and they have all been sturdy and reliable. But if I am to believe what the repair centre is telling me re the Sim Card Reader, which I didn't treat any different might I add than I did my other phones, then I can't help but feel hesitant about buying a Sony phone in the future. I was also led to believe that I would be covered by the manufacturers guarantee within the first year, and that was fine, as I had covered all over aspects. I had screen protectors and a protective case, and I didn't foresee any problems. Now I'm just left with a phone I am going to have paid alot to simply get working that I'm going to be scared to even use. All in all not a happy experience and one I'm not keen to repeat.
Sorry to hear about the problem with your phone.Unfortunately, if the service center find a damage on the phone and if it's not caused by a manufacturing defect, it will not be covered by the warranty. You can read more about this on our warranty conditions that you'll find on our webpage:

I also recommend that you contact your local support for more information because I cannot see anything specific on your case from here.

same problem with them, it baffles me that they are still saying its not a manufacturing issue, such a terrible design. the sim tray is practically useless. if this problem was adressed id happily have sony phones for life but not a chance in **bleep** i will ever buy another sony product anymore, anyone wanna buy a smartwatch and broken xperia z1??
Same here, the defect is caused by the ridiculous design of the flimsy plastic insert, not the user. I also had to pay £50. Very very disappointed. I travel a lot and need to switch sims regurlarly. I now have no confidence in my Z2 doing so.
