Broken digitizer?

Broken digitizer?

I had my Xperia Z in my front pocket during the course of the day at work. I've removed it and noticed that the entire LCD screen (not the glass) had a crack across it and was "bleeding". Couldn't use the screen at all and it's progressively got worse now to the point whereby there's nothing much being displayed on the screen at all, with just occasional lines of pixels being displayed and the odd flash of the wallpaper on the bottom half of the phone.

I've absolutely no idea how this has even happened. I've certainly not dropped it or had anything else in my pocket and there's absolutely no damage to either the front or the back glass on the phone. Is this a manufactoring defect? There's a few other theads of a similar nature I've seen - what are peoples experiences of getting them repaired?

I'm certainly not keen on the idea of paying hundreds of pounds for a new digitizer that can't with stand normal wear and tear in a front pocket. Certainly never had this happen to any other phone. Is there absolutely no flex in this Xperia Z chassis whatsoever?
