Brightness adjustments while playing video

Hello, I have Xperia T and I encoutered strange problem: while playing video screen brightness is adjusted even with autobrightness turned off.

To reproduce this issue:

  • turn off autobrightness in display settings, set lowest screen brightness
  • play video in dark room (mobile screen is only source of light)
  • video scenes is changing from bright to dark (e.g. interior vs outdoor scene)
  • screen is with slight delay adjusting brightness - lowering brightness at dark scene, increasing brightness in bright scene

You can play for example stock video skyfall_sam_mendes_videoblog, at 0:20 is typical example what I am talking about - when scene changes to Sam commentary, screen is changing brightness automatically. This is really annoying:-/

Is this problem only in my phone or can anybody else reproduce this issue? Thanks.

Hello. I have the same problem on my xperia t 7.0.A.3.195. When I watch videos from YouTube like a football game it is more obvious and brightness is changing almost every 2 seconds (its darkening the screen and lightning back). In display option the auto brightness is disabled. I also noticed auto brightness change in other app's when is a change from a dark to white background. I have reset to factory settings and the problem is the same. Thanks.

Problem is visible even in apps that do not play video. Sometimes when there is some heavier load on processor screen flickers really fast but I am not sure if those 2 issues are related.

To Sony: 14 days without answer? Really?

The problem is also described here with an easy way to reproduce it in apps.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2082007

It is not limited to video playback, it is a system wide effect.

@Sony: Is there any solution or explanation?

I'm sorry that it has taken so long but I have done some testing now using a later software and I'm not able to replicate the issue that you guys report so I assume it's fixed. I suggest that you use PC Companion and connect your phone via USB to check for software updates.

*Note that software updates roll out gradually so it might not be available for your device just yet.

I can reproduce the effect doing the following:

Just try closing all tabs in Chrome (remain with the dark chrome background icon), and look at the status bar icons: they are pale white, not bright white. Then open a browser tab and watch the address bar colors (sand, white, and black text), go through all of the shades of grey, before finally settling to the right colors. It's not just Chrome... every time your display shows a dark scene going brighter, you can see it happen.

The same happens to me.

Firmware: 7.0.A.3.195

Same happens to me... build number ending in 223 which I believe is the latest? Come on Sony. You can't expect to compete with the likes of Apple & Samsung if you can't even get the basics of a phone right.
