Bluetooth Problems when connecting to Mercedes Comand APS

I have an Xperia S and the phone pairs with the Mercedes Benz (B200) Comand APS automatically, right from start-up.  However, the first time a call is received after connecting, the caller cannot hear anything; I can hear them.  The problem is inconsistent.  If I make the first call the connection is, usually, okay and both parties can hear each other.  Subsequent calls are generally okay from that point, but inconsistant.

Sometimes after answering a call, if I switch the bluetooth off on the call screen, tell the caller to hold on, then hit the bluetooth button on the call screen again, the call is usually fully enabled both ways.  This is also inconsistant.  As expected, Sony have told me it's the car, Merc tell me it's the phone.  Typical.

I like my Sony Smartphone but may have to go to another manufacturer's compatible phone as the phone problem is dangerous at worse (while driving, and illegal to touch the phone) and unprofessional/rude to clients in the least.

Is there a patch, or fix or update available? Sony Support please?

Regards, John

Hi there,

At first, we need to sort out if these two units are compatible. What are the specified requirements from the car system? Which bluetooth profiles, android versions etc are supported? This information should be found in the user guide or the manufacturers website.

The bluetooth profiles supported by Xperia S are the following:

Advanced Audio Distribution Profile v1.2

Audio/Video Remote Control Profile v1.0

Handsfree Profile v1.5

Headset Profile v1.1

Object Push Profile v1.1

Phonebook Access Profile v1.0

Have you tried any other phones (Android, preferably) with this system? As the problems you experience seems inconsistent, there might be something wrong with the phone which causes these issues. Trying with a similar phone to see if the problems are the same would narrow it down so we can see if the problem is related to your phone, the phone/car system connection or compatibility.
