Battery levels jumping randomly and not charging

 Hey guys,

I hope that this message reaches you well as I have recently been running into a few issues with my phone.

Since a prior update to the phone the phone had begun not recognizing a full battery charge no matter what I would do with it and at times no longer charge as properly and or as expected.

Troubleshooting steps taken:

1. Ensured that there was no debris in the USB charging port and attempted on multiple USB power wall chargers and ports on multiple computers.
2. Removed SD card and SIM card
3. Attempted to clear cache partition. This resulted in phone vibrating 3 times then stopping and when releasing the buttons it would continue in certain intervals to vibrate.
4. Performed hard reset with push PIN on the button near the SIM card.
5. At this point I was able to then charge my phone on a USB 3.0 strip with power output at 5volt 1amp constant and 5volt 2.1amp constant charge.
6. Verified charge was happening however the power percentage would jump up then down then up to 50% maximum.
7. Powered on phone and used the Sony PC Companion to reset the phone without the SD card.
8. After firmware reflash the battery still continues to do this.

At this point with the multiple troubleshooting steps that I have taken it seems to be that this more of a hardware level issue compared with software related.

I am not one to go in water with the phone and have all port covers closed at all times within the casing. Cosmetically the phone has normal "scratches" from junk in my pockets or stuff that gets inbetween the case and rubs against this.

While at work today on my break looking at news the phone shut off saying that it was low power even after a full nights charge on the Sony USB wall charger... Then not being able to charge for most of my workday.

Needless to say I am rather disappointed in this as I have a business trip this upcoming Monday and had to revert to my previous phone since T-Mobile no longer has any of your phones in stock in multiple stores.

They also wanted to price gouge me for a new phone. Even with insurance and being under warranty with them and with you. They wanted me to purchase a new phone which is not something that I would like to do as I had purchased this in December of last year. (I have receipts and original retail box if needed.)

I cannot include photos in this initial case creation page. However, I will be more than happy to send photos displaying the jumps in the battery life section of the phone and or create a small video showing these problems to you guys.

Please get back to me as soon as possible either through call or email... I had moved my SIM to my old phone so I can continue doing my work.

Here are the images:

*Note the time stamp on the phone and the charging status/percentage of battery life.

I'm unable to see the images you posted at the moment. But from what you described it maybe a hardware issue. Try to Contact your local Sony Xperia support to get your phone evaluated.

Thanks for the response man and that you can't see the images.

Here is a link to Google Drive to take a gander at the images after a fresh reinstall:

Hi @Bender2,

Sorry to hear about this. Since this behaviour remains after you performed a software repair I suggest that you get your phone examined by a technician at an authorised service center. Contact your Local support for more information on where you can find the nearest authorised service center and/or how to proceed further with this.

Hey guys,

Sorry about the delay in getting back to everyone as I was on a business trip and had very limited access to email.

Currently at this time I am working with support with a RMA to have the phone "reviewed" at their return warehouse within Texas.

As a long story short though is that for any of the RMAs to have reviewed with no guarantee that this will actually be fixed is that if a phone is damaged within shipping then you'll be SOL (ensure that you have it bubble wrapped with your proof of purchase!

You'll pay for shipping without any options to have a pre-paid shipping label generated even though it is a MANUFACTURING DEFECT of the phone not charging 100%.

I am needless to say very dissapointed in this entire process by the phone carrier (not having any in stock and demanding $175 for a insurance claim for a phone purchased on December 13th of 2014. ~ T-Mobile) and:

* Having to revert to my previous phone during a business trip that doesn't work properly on my carrier...

* Having to pay for shipping costs to have the phone looked at.

* Being told that you are SOL and that it will take a minimum and if not longer than a 14 day period to have it reviewed and then mailed back as ground shipping.

If I did not have my previous phone I would have been forced to buy another one WASTING additional money and time in having this issue in the first place.

I will keep you all up to date throughout this process. The phone is due to be delivered on Wednesday the 11th of next week and MAYBE I'll have a replacement before or after Thanksgiving.

@Christofer

With this series of unfortunate events surrounding this phone and the issues involved with it and with what others have mentioned in other posts is that this a problem.

From being stifled from my phone carrier and Sony technical/customer support I am now feeling that the only way to be heard is by writing the BBB or Beareau of Consumer Protection as this is well documented in many forums of others experiencing this problem.

I am currently just starting to become a professional photographer and if this is the level of support that I can expect then Sony will not be included in my line of cameras.

It would be horrific if spending $6000 USD on a camera and then it suddenly, "Just dies" to be told you are SOL.

@Bender2 I am sorry to hear that. However, looking at the pictures that you posted previously the battery in your phone isn't behaving correctly and needs to be examined by a technician at an authorised service center. We can unfortunately not provide you with another solution in this case.

Also, looking at your pictures again I don't recognise the charger you are using as the original charger. Please note that we do not recommend that you use a third party charger to charge your phone.

@mrnino This has been answered previously here.
