Auto Home WiFi Connection

Usually when I return home my phone will switch from mobile packet data to connect to my WiFi, however tonight it didn't, the wifi list showed my hubs name but it said out of range, after turning off phone then restarting it did connect, but why did I need to do this?

Phone isn't using stamina mode and is already set to automatically connect.

But it works fine while on safe mode?

Works fine in normal mode most of the time.

Whenever it doesn't work, keep an eye on which apps are running 

settings > apps > running

Under WiFi settings there is an option called Assign auto IP address if DHCP fails, is it safe to have this ticked?

Happened again tonight, got home no auto Wifi connection, checked Wifi settings and all previous connections were there but none were doing anything.

Why would it have anything to do with a third party app? all my apps are from Google Play store.
