Hey all!
I just bought my Xperia Arc S last month, and yesterday, it broke… I don’t know how I managed that either. It had turned itself off at some point while in my pocket, and now it won’t appear to turn back on. The backlight, LEDs and connection to my computer are fine, but the screen remains blank no matter what I do.
I somehow managed to take two screenshots of my locked screen after turning on my phone and touching the screen where the “take screenshot” button should be though. So I think the problem is that the screen just isn’t displaying. But I’m not sure! Any resets won’t work because I can’t see what should be on the screen.
I think it might be worth mentioning that a few days ago, the touch screen had become unresponsive and I had to take out the battery and restart it. The UI was also starting to lag sometimes (but maybe I was just downloading and uninstalling too many apps).
Any ideas as to what’s wrong would be greatly appreciated! I want my phone working as soon as possible.
Hi, suggest you software repair phone, hopefully it is a software glitch. Be aware that this process will erase phone data completely.
Here's the download link to Update Service, http://www.sonymobile.com/gb/tools/update-service/. Download and install to PC/Laptop, launch it and follow on-screen instructions.

Hey, thanks for your quick reply!
I've updated it (apparently to ICS) but throughout the whole process, the display remained blank, and now the screen is still blank when I try to turn it on. I have no clue how it got like this, but I get the feeling this is a hardware problem. I'll take it to be checked this week and let you know...
It seems to be a hardware issue, I guess your only option is to visit your local Service Centre for repair.
HI,
Saw the post above and would like to ask: I have an arc S that has a display problem: The phone works, but the images on the display are almost impossible to see, they are so faint - and only if the display is held to the light! The touch screen function works, as do all other functions...any ideas what the problem is? I bought the phone in Miami, but live in The Bahamas so a short trip to a service center is the last option!
Hi Paul_Hyde, did you try adjusting display brightness?
