APN Settings for Consumer Cellular

I have been trying to figure out how to get two smart phones and a small  data plan for less than $100 a month for a long time. Then I ran across
Consumer Cellular and the Sony Tipo phone. The SIM card from Consumer Cellular  worked for voice as soon as the line was activated.  Consumer Cellular is a MVNO (mobile virtual network operator), which means they resell AT&T's network. 

The phone is really great, but I spent three days trying to get it to work on Consumer Cellular’s (AT&T) HSDPA network. The phone part worked as soon as I plugged in the Sim card. So .. here are the APN Settings. I get 2 to 4 meg of download speed and this also enables MMS

The APN type can be left blank, but I messed around with several (changed
network routing) settings, and these worked the best.

To access “settings” from
the home screen press button to the right of home

• “settings”
• Mobile network
  settings screen –  “Network mode”
• Network mode –
  “WCDMA/(preferred/GSM”
• “Back
  button”  to go back to  Mobile
  network settings

• Access Point
  Names
• Select the first
  APN, in my case I called it “Sony”
• Input data as
  indicated Below

To save settings - Press
parallel line icon, next to the home button.
You don’t need to turn the phone off to enable the changes.

When it works you will see a little H (HSDPA) next to the cell phone bar indicator.

Username: (not set)

MMSC:  http://mmsc.cingular.com

MMS proxy: 66.209.11.33

MMS port: 80
MCC: 310

Authentication type: None
APN type:  default,mms,supl,hipri        

APN protocol: IPv4

APN roaming protocol IPv4

APN enable/disable grayed out and checked

There is an option on the
phone to download APN settings from the Net.

Make
sure you have a working WIFI connection

- Go to settings, select Xperia

       - Select Internet settings (Download settings for Internet and MMS)

- Accept the data charges warning.   You are on WIFI, so there are no data charges.

On my phone it gave me three options:

        H20
        Wireless USA

  Red  Pocket US

   ATT

After you select one of the options, the setting will automatically added to your
phone.  In my case, for Consumer Cellular H20 worked perfectly ... but you should change the APN type to double the H20 default speed. I tested this severl times and it really works.

APN type:  default,mms,supl,hipri       Change from H20 default – doubles connection speed.

I wasted a lot of hours looking all over the Internet for APN settings.  Too bad Sony did not include a Quick Start guide with instructions on where to find this option.

Thank you both for posting these configuration solutions. I was a Verizon customer who has anxiously waited for my wife and I contract to expire. Her 2 years are up and mine will be in July. I was have great difficulty getting her Xperia Miro fully functional on the Consumer Cellular network but, thanks to this thread, we are there.
