Android 5.0.2 - Wi-Fi Issues

Hi,

My Z3c phone received the Android 5.0.2 update last week and although I have been generally happy with the update, the wi-fi performance has taken a big hit and doesn't seem as reliabile as it was. I have also noticed that connections are dropped and recreated randomly throughout the day even though the device has not moved from the access point. This is particularly true when using application such as Situations and Smart Unlock. The developers of these apps have confirmed that there are problems with the 5.0.2 update and that Google fixed these with v5.1. Do we know when Sony will be releasing this update for the series Z devices?

Same wifi authentication issues since the update. Is sony looking to patch this or pretend like it's not happening? Seems to be a common issue in the forum!

Also, any suggestions for other fixes without having to downgrade software? Thx

We have Mr. Rickard here who is kind of Sony assistant. He said the problem is passed to engineers. Let's hope it'll be addressed soon, otherwise this Lollipop firmware is just not acceptable. No fixes are known for me. I personally rolled back to KitKat meanwhile.

Without wishing to tempt fate, my phone has been a little more reliable on Wifi since receiving the update. It is not perfect by anymeans but it is definitely not dropping my work wifi connection as often as it was before the update. Hopefully Google / Sony are working hard to bring further updates to improve the platform stability as I am still experiencing occasional graphical slow downs when returning to the home screen. Reboot normally sorts these but even this takes ages with the pattern security enabled.

Why on earth it needed to take perfectly working KitKat wi-fi stack and re-code it to ruin everything...I'll never get that.

I just updated to 5.0.2... and as you may expect I'm having Wi-Fi Issues.

Work: Keeps disconnecting intermittently and I have to re-enter my password.

Home: Won't authenticate at all.

Had no issues with either on KitKat! (I am using a Z2)

Hi,

I have the same problem too and it is very annoying.

My Z1 Compact was upgraded to Lollipop just yesterday and since then I am not able to connect to my home wi-fi whatsoever - restarting couple of times, switching wifi on/off couple of times. I also re-installed the phone using PC Companion as advised in another topic here. But the problem is all the time the same.

It is definitely not a hardware issue as it worked smoothly with Kitkat.

I would like to ask you for an advise how to fix the issue as the phone is useless at this stage. I have already checked the support in my country (Czech Republic) and the only way is to send the phone via postal service, which is not acceptable for me as I need the phone every day.

If you do not have any other way how to solve this issue then advise me please how to get back to the Kitkat version which I was very happy with.

In the end, let me express a huge disappointment with the Sony company which is continuing with the Lollipop upgrades although it very well knows that the upgrade is causing such issues (the first reports about the wi-fi connections issues are more than 1 month old on this support forum).

For anyone having issues connecting to existing WiFi at all, I would highly recommend performing a full factory reset of your phone. My Z3, certainly started behaving much better after I did this and then manually restored my apps / settings rather than restoring from backup. I then took a full backup after this. If you are only experiencing wifi dropouts then try disabling BT as this definitely improves wifi stability. Hopefully Sony / Google will have a more permanent fix very soon.

I started to hate my Xperia Z due to that wifi problem.
