I just would like to know if someone has the same problem than me.
Sony talks a lot about the 13Mpx Exmor R camera in this phone, but I realize that the pictures that I take, even outside in a sunny day, has very very low quality.
I don't understand how a 13Mpx camera only gives a 3Mb picture (other phones with only 5Mpx camera, gives better quality, for example my old iphone 4). My pictures on the Xperia T has very low quality (even shooting at 13Mpx), a lot of noise and a very poor resolution. Hasn't the pictures a lot of JPG compression???
I wonder if it's just me or anybody else has the same problem.
I tried to search on the phone some option to increase the quality, but I am unable to find it.
Is there any patch from Sony to fix this problem?. I won't believe that this camera only may offer this poor pictures.
Thx.
I think the problem is the compression. Can we avoid that compression? All the photos (even 13 MPX ones) are about 3 MB of size...
I'm sorry to hear, but looking at these example pictures that both you and Samuel have uploaded I would say that they are OK and less light will give you more noise, but there is of course always room for improvement and further development. I wouldn't say that these picture are bad, but I guess that also depends on with which technology you're comparing with.
All feedback is appreciated, so thank you for sharing your thoughts about this I will pass this on.
It is obvious that less light means more noise, this is something that everybody knows.
And of course, it is obvious that you cannot compare the pictures taken with a phone camera with a small cmos, with a 1/2" reflex camera cmos. With old phones, no 13Mpx, no Exmor RS, no Sony lenses... etc, you get better pictures (iphone, Nokia...). This is just ridicilous.
What I am trying to say is that nomatter what conditions you will shoot, you will get noise. And lots of it. Sunny day, cloudy day, night... If you look at them in the same phone (not maximizing the pictures), it is obvious that you will see them well. If I download the pictures to my computer and I see them, then, all you see is a bad bad picture.
As I see things, there is a main issue with this camera
The JPG compression is reallly bad (it has to be PERFECT) if you take a 13Mpx picture and the compression makes a 2Mb picture. There is no need to make that huge compression, because this is a very small cmos, the more compression you do, the worst pictures you'll get. What's the meaning of it?... it is just stupid.
Why don't you try to make a better algorism, so the pictures will not look that bad???... or make it easier... just don't compress the pictures that much.
I always said that the colour/contrast of this camera is amazing. The only problem comes with the noise (and due to the noise, the sharpness), and this is something that can be fixed easily, very very easily by some update.
This phone is perfectly able to work with 5 or 6Mb pictures... this is more than double size.
As I said before, search for other forums on internet... lots of people complains about the same than I do. Too much compression, too much noise, awful pictures... etc. It is not just me. With this phone, this should not happen.
Sony should take seriously the complains about this problem, because, same as I do, LOTS of people gives to the camera a very important thing.
You know what?, I was used to, sometimes, do not take my compact camera when I went out with my family, just my iphone 4 camera was enough for me. This is something I don't dare to do with this phone.
Come on!... this camera can do much better, and you know it. I won't believe that all this camera can do, are this pictures. It is impossible to believe.
Amen to that. The camera is one of the main reasons why I went for this phone as the reviews were invariably good. If there had been a readily-available Nokia running on Symbian (808 pureview) then I would have gone for that like a shot as it is not only the camera that I have issues with, but unfortunately it is not available on contract in the UK.
There are many people who say how good the camera is, but they are obviously not used to having used superior technology in the past and are satisfied with something that is second-rate. After a steep learing curve my knowledge of the Android system and this phone is slowly crystallising and, having waded through all the rubbish, I have realised that it is not what it is cracked up to be. This, coupled with the aforementioned camera issues, has made my experience so far extremely disappointing. I just take my old N8 with me now for photography purposes, also writing e-mails, data input, etc, is so much easier using the Nokia.
Here goes some samples of the pictures that I did today.. I shoot at 10Mpx (16:9)... all the pictures that I post here, are very low iso (this means it should be almost 0 noise) and with a high shooter speed (wich it always happens when there is LOTS of light). There are some that are inside the Cathedral, BUT with sunlight.
With this settings, the pictures should be perfectly sharp, and with very few or almost nothing of noise... (this is what it should be).
Now, download the pictures and maximize them at 100%... WHO is the one to tell me that the pictures are sharp?... for God's sake, there is noise even in the blue of the sky!!!!
Johan, DO NOT tell me that this is how the pictures has to look, because then, this camera has a HUGE problem.
I guarantee you 100% that this pictures taken with my wife's iphone 3GS (wich it's 3,5Mpx camera), looks MUCH better!!!!.
Today I took 119 pictures... not even a 10% looks moreless well. The rest, are as you can see in the examples here.
You know, could post LOTS of pictures like the ones I posted here, but they are bigger than 2Mb, so it is impossible...
Amazing that all the 10Mpx pictures that I took today are under 3Mb... Too much compression makes the pictures looks like this.
Definetely, I will NOT use this camera. It's a pitty, because you say it's an amazing camera, when the truth it's that is the WORST camera I have even seen in a phone.
I insist... read other posts, and you will see that ALL the complains comes from the compression and the terrible quality.
Sorry, I have to post these pictures in all the forums where I write (not few in Spain), so the people can see.
I have the same issue.
cool pix where in Spain is this?
Sorry man, you and me are not the only ones... there are LOTS like us.
Post some of your pictures. The most we post, the better... MAYBE then Sony will do something.
Uliwooly, this is in Barcelona.
I wish I this camera would do something better than this terrible pictures, so you could see better.
Next time I will go out to take pictures, I will take with me my old iPhone 4 to make a comparasion, so then, you will see well.
I am sorry for this 10Mpx ugly pictures. It is not my fault, but still...
