5.1.1 update problems

Updated Android this morning and several problems already:

  1. Messaging freezes. Cannot use it at all.
  2. Contacts - my contacts have all disappeared

There may be other problems that I haven't spotted yet but these 2 mean that my phone is almost useless as a phone because I have no contact details and messaging doesn't work.

Have regretted buying this phone from beginning and will switch as soon as I can but until then I would like the basics to work.

Update: cannot make calls from the phone. Phone keeps crashing and restarting. Beyond bad.

Hi @YoYo62

You can go to Settings -> Apps -> All -> Phone -> force stop and clear data. Do the same for contacts app. Then restart your device.

I'm at disposal for any question.

Hi YoYo62, welcome to the community!

Try xavinux's suggestion first and see how that goes. If the problem persists, I advise booting the phone in Safe Mode to determine whether it is a software issue or a third party app issue.

To boot your phone in safe mode press the power key until the Power Off message appears > hold your finger on Power
Off for 2-3 seconds until 'Reboot to safe mode?' appears > tap OK. To exit Safe Mode just power the phone off & then
on normally. If the issue was not present in Safe Mode, that indicates a third party app is causing the issue. In this case exit Safe Mode and then un-install any third party apps you don't need and clear the cache/data for the apps you want to keep. If this doesn't help or you have found that the issue was still present in Safe Mode - you will need to run a software repair on the handset.

Let us know how it goes.

Since the update the built-in Timer crashes every time I use it.

When the countdown reaches zero it starts to play the music, after one cycle, the music stops, and the app and phone do not respond. After some seconds a message comes up: Timer app not responding. Would you like to close it?

When I tap yes, the phone functions on normally.

Hhhhh...

At least the bad microphone sound quality is gone.

Hi @cinke

I suggest to boot your device into safe mode to determine whether it is a software issue or a third party application issue:

Hi @cinke

You are welcome.

I suggest you to first run a backup of the device information like this:

http://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/FAQ/Backup-amp-Transfer/m-p/407253#U407253

Try performing a system repair using PC Companion:

http://support.sonymobile.com/gb/tools/pc-companion/

This will factory reset your phone and erase all data. You might need tocharge your device for about 1-2 hours before so the device has at least 80% battery. Make sure the device is not connected to computer or laptop and turned off (sometimes you have to press power button and volume up until the device vibrates 3 times or on some devices you have to press the small button near the SIM tray or on the back of the device). Start PC Companion and select Support zone then Update my phone/tablet then in Blue Repair my phone/tablet and follow the on screen instructions - When prompted connect your phone still switched off holding volume down or back button - This should start the repair or reformat process. If you are using Windows 8/8.1 or a 64bit operating system then adjust the settings for PC Companion and run in compatibility mode and chose Windows 7 or XP.

In PC Companion you press start on Support Zone -> Start on Update the phone/tablet software -> Repair phone/tablet (the blue
clickable link in the message) -> Follow these steps without having your device connected to the PC.

Follow the instruction that appears in the program and do not connect your device until this guide tells you how to connect it.

If it's not possible to perform this software repair, you could check the following FAQ topic regarding USB connection problems:

Well, well, it is easier to tap OK once a day, than doing a repair. I will see if I have the determination for this.

By the way Lego City game does the same.

Maybe I will have to be more active when my son will be pressing me for his game...

Hi @Chusazo

Please, you can try first to run a backup of the device information. Then perform a system repair using PC Companion or Bridge for MAC. The process will erase all internal memory. You might need to charge your device for about 1-2 hours before so the device has at least 80% battery.Switch off your phone and unplug from Pc (Hold volume up and power for around 10 seconds) Start PC Companion and select Support zone then Update my phone/tablet then in Blue Repair my phone/tablet and follow the on screen instructions - When prompted connect your phone still switched off holding volume down or back button - This should start the repair or reformat process If you are using Windows 8/8.1 or a 64bit operating system then adjust the settings for PC Companion and run in compatibility mode and chose Windows 7 or XP.
