4K recording... what format? and editing software?

Well, I pre-ordered the Z5 within 2 hours of the IFA presentation (as I did the Z1) thanks to EE opening their system for it, but I don't think my computer has 4K video editing software or DVD creation?

I have Sony's Vegas Movie studio 10 suite  & Cyberlinks power2go 10 platinum...  I can't see the "format" used by the phone so I can't see if Cyberlink supports it for dvd creation... and while I am sure Vegas 10 doesn't  I can upgrade to vegas 13 studio which seems to have partial 4K support  (the Pro version has full support but I am not going to ever be doing anything that needs that sort of power)

??

thanks...

just to add.... it looks like power2go can convert some 4k types to other formats... which would mean after rendering i could use the legacy formats...   but still would love to know for the future...   and if vegas 13 can manipulate in the native format without having to mess about first.

Consult this white paper, I'm not an expert in such formats so may be you can know something:

I am not sure if it helps but recorded on a Z2 and exported to PC. The format is H.264 MPEG4 AVC Part 10 at 29 fps.

thanks folks...  ive looked closely at the specs of other consumer 4k recording cameras (and the xperia phones that can) and seen there are two versions of 4k, one with an "s" at the end and one that has not...   the vegas 13 pro version does both but the home user version does the "s"  version...  so i have updated the sony vegas software (and my acid program as it is in the suite) to the latest offering...

i also bought a faster sd card ( u3 ) just because this time i transfer i will try using the xperia transfer software to go from z1 to z5 and hopefully move the 10gb of music and settings in one hit...   from the x10 to S and S to Z1 i manually added everything and it took hours!

4K isn't really a format, it's a resolution of 4K like it's name. The video capture options are between h264 and h265, which will decide the format. And the video container is as always .mp4.

So, if your video editing software supports h264, there will be no problem in editing or converting. But be aware, that it will take much cpu power and time to convert the edited outcome to another format, because 4k means, that the software has to rule out 4 times more than full HD.
