Google Maps crashes on XA2

For some reason, Google Maps always crashes on my phone.  It will exit and then leave a blank screen. 

This is for any version apart from the stock version for Android 8.0 which is Google Maps version 9.56.7.

I have tried all the usual steps of clearing the cache and app data but nothing helps.  I am trying to avoid a facotry reset of my phone.  Any ideas?

weird.. maybe another app that can make a problem with google maps?

thats what i am thinking.  i just cannot figure out which one.

Test the phone in >>> safe mode if you don't experience the same issue then it is a third party app.

Ok so still happens in safe mode.   Hmmmmm

Do you get an error message? 

settings > apps > app info > google maps > storage > clear data > restart the phone > try again

Done all that many times.   Anyone know how to clear/wipe cache partition on a xa2 like u can on a nexus/pixel via bootloader?

thanks for everyones help, however i have reimaged the phone.  Problem gone.
