After contacts transfer there are no names just numbers on messages list

I have transfered my contacts and stuff from my xteria compact to my xperia XA2

the trouble is there are no names on my messages that got transered so i have loads of old texts telephone numbers with no names alsosome of my phone numbers do not show names any more ? i use xperia companion

any help please

How did you transferred your contacts? what if you sync your contacts with Google then just access the Google account with the new device > sync contacts 

or

use Xperia Transfer Mobile

thankyou uploading to google then to my new phone did the trick, before i just backed up to pc then transfered i dont know what the difference should be it dont make much sense to me
