Xperia X WiFi Weak Reception Issue

Hi everyone,

I have had my Xperia X for about 2 months now. The issue with it is that the WiFi reception on it is very weak. I have to me within 1 meter of the WiFi router for it to actually load anything when connected to WiFi.

Any further the reception drops to almost nothing and it struggles to load anything! My laptop and all the other phones we have are absolutely fine.

Any ideas?

Thank you.

This sounds really like your area are congested with the 2.4GHz networks and you need to get a dual band router. How many access points do you see in the wifi list?

The Xperia X WiFi is indeed weaker than others, comparing to my Nexus 5 and iPhone 6, but it is still usable in other rooms.

Same issue with my phone. Android 7.1.1

I have a Z3 connected to the same WiFi and he has a better reception 📶. I don't know why Sony don't have good standards in WiFi and GSM systems

I have the exact same issue with my Sony xperia X! Did you get this resolved? I have emailed the Sony support team where I live in nz so hopefully they can tell me what to do. I don't want to buy a new phone as this is only 15months old and I love the phone just not the wifi issue.

Hi all,

Unfortunately there is notging to do, xperia x is a bad phone choice, full stop. I used to have an experia z compact, which was a good phone, strong WiFi connection and signal. Had to change due to broken phone, so I thought the new xperia model will be as good, if not better.... But since day one I realised this is just a bad phone with poor wifi signal, as it will only get one bar or no signal, while the older Xperia z has 4 bars. Same settings, same router and everything, so no worth trying to convince anyone about "mysterious settings" etc... These are just attempts of the support team to shift the focus elsewhere, not worth trying anything but another phone, even an older Xperia z will be much better. Finally even the phone GSM signal seems to be poorer, which makes me wonder, whats the point of this phone if the basic functions of the phone are so poor.

You're right.

WiFi performance in Xperia Z3 and other models is better.

Better accept and deal with it.

  • Set router to 2.4G only
  • Reset all WiFi networks
    • Open Settings
    • Scroll down and tap System
    • Tap Reset
    • Tap Network Settings Reset
    • Tap Reset Settings

Hope this helps you.

after the July security update(34.4.A.2.97) it has turned into a worse scenario

Okay, so it's not only with my phone...

I am traveling a lot, so I am using WiFi always in different places. It happens all the time that other people in the same room can use the internet on their whatever devices, but my Xperia X phone just doesn't connect.

I will try this safe mode thing, but what I have seen so far is that I can only download that to a computer - maybe I am missing something on how to do it on my phone.

I mean I will try the Sony Companion thing to download.

I have sony xperia performance and found out that when it's on flat on table then the wifi reseption is really really bad. But if I but it on an angle then it's ok.
