What happened to the Xperia keyboard? o.0

I've just bought the XC (received it yesterday) and I noticed there was no Xperia keyboard. Swiftkey is the default. "Ok - I thought - I'll download it from Google Play". Well, doing a search it doesn't show. Which usually means an app doesn't support that phone.

I mean.. Really? Is Sony ditching its own keyboard for the one.. owned by MS? Or it is just the X Compact? Anguished_Face

I've got the same problem and have yet to find a way to transfer all my words over. Crossing my fingers there is a way!!

Maybe the Jelly Bean keyboard 4.3 from developer VLLWP is one to consider.
You can get it from the Playstore. There is a free version and a Pro (paid) version with all the features unlocked. The keyboard is very customisable. I have now knowledge of any other keyboard that goes this far in customization. And it's very responsive!
I don't like Swiftkey either. I find it aggressive with it's word prediction even if you switch it off. The Xperia keyboard is very good but a bit slow compared with the Jelly Bean 4.3 keyboard.

Can any of the mods escalate this to Sony please?

I really like the Sony Xperia keyboard and wish they had continued to develop this. I can't stand SwiftKey, and to be honest, it is ruining the 'experience' of using this phone. Constantly changing my words. It wouldn't be so bad if I could turn off auto-correct on its own, but turning that off means, for example, typing "ive" stays as "ive" rather than "i've". It's massively frustrating because I am used to the Xperia keyboard and would rather it be reinstated.

I have to agree. When I write in english it's actually not bad. But in swedish it's horrible. If Sony don't do anything about this soon I will sell this phone because you can't write messages at all. SwiftKey makes this phone bad

After weeks of using it I'm quite sure that Swiftkey is actually smarter (quite smarter)  than the Xperia Keyboard. The predictions in Italian keep getting better. It developed a larger personal dictionary, and at the end it does make use of it. It takes indeed few tries to learn (and use) a new word. For example the word "po' " (with the apostrophy) took forever, so much that I thought the keyboard was bad myself. But now it always shows.

Also if one slows down in few letters of a word it usually gets it right. I tried that with the Xperia Keyboard and very often it didn't work, so much that I had to type some words letter by letter. And then it has plenty of skins. All for free! :smileysmileythumbsup:

In any case I doubt the Xperia keyboard will ever come back. It seems to me this hasn't been a developers decision but a business decision. I wouldn't be surprised if the developers have already been absorbed in other teams. Not that I understand the logic behind dropping an app with more than 50 million downloads. Eve if most of them were pre-installations in the Xperia phones.

I have to always write words letter by letter except in english. But in swedish it's just worthless.

Sorry for the dumb question.. Did you check both languages are enabled in the Swiftkey language settings? Once it happened to me and for some reason Italian was disabled.

Hi @ALg68

To force the keyboard to learn your personal words, during tiping, after wrote manually a word, you must tap on this word in the first string (where are located the suggestions). By tiping on the word written manually, you can learn the keyboard itself and then have prediction correctly.

I hope this helps you! :smileysmileythumbsup:

Digging out the thread - I installed Xperia keyboard apk, and can't sync it with my old one, the sync options just don't appear there.

Is it possible to sync it with google account so that I can have my dictionary of 2 years, or am I forced to try and do it manually, or leave it be and re-learn?

Edit: I can't force it to learn from SMS and gmail either, this options don't appear.

Maybe there must be another apk which we must install to enable sync? i´m also missing this option, on my tablet z4 everything is fine, but this is as the xperia keyboard was installed as default...what can we do? Does anyone know which part is missing for sync feature?
