Oreo Update Not Available

Oreo Update Not Available

My wife's x compact (F5321) is stuck on build 34.3.A.0.252 7.1.1 and hasn't received any updates (including security updates) since December 1,  2017.

If I try from the phone or from the xperia companion it simply says "no updates are available."

Is this issue specific to this North American release of the phone? Is an update in the works still? I don't see any other forum posts mentioning this issue.

And based on the comments I do see from people having issues with Oreo on this phone I'm thinking that forcing one of the Russian or European images to flash sounds like a bad idea.

Thanks!

If you check this link:

https://xpericheck.com/device/F5321

-you can see which firmware regional variants have received Oreo. Anything that lists a firmware beginning with 34.4.A.2 has Oreo. That includes "Customized US". Perhaps you don't actually have the US variant on your phone? If you have the ability to set up the fingerprint sensor, then you have another variant, one that might have not been updated.

Android 8.0 Oreo turned out to be so bad that Sony does not risk doing an update in countries such as America, it can be expensive for her. But it is possible to run with impunity Oreo with its endless bugs in the third world countries, such as Russia and the countries of the former socialist camp. It is enough to look what countries sit with their problems with the Oreo people on this forum. I, for example, from Russia. Tech support Sony Russia has no problem with the Oreo. Who lives in Russia understands what I'm talking about And you, the visitors of this forum, from which countries? Write here. Let's see in which countries Sony runs its unfinished firmware.

@Ozon_Aleksei

Your argument is quite invalid. Oreo update has been released in every country and region for mostly all the devices mentioned in the Oreo update roadmap.

You need to differentiate between known Oreo issues that no one can fix but Google (like Bluetooth compatibility issues) and Sony Xperia ROM issues.

Yes, I can configure the fingerprint sensor, but I cannot find the CDA number anywhere to determine exactly which variant I have, and my googling has failed in how to find that number.

Thank you,

The Xperia X Compact that I purchased also originally had a firmware variant that was not subject to the Oreo update. I used flashtool to download and install the US variant of the firmware. Today I received the July 1st security update (for Android 8.0). I assume that the updates will probably continue through at least autumn 2018.

BTW, I have not experienced the problems that others have mentioned as being prompted by the update to Oreo. I have encountered a few defective Xperia X Compacts, though, and had to return the phones. I don't know if there are more defective XCs than other models. It stands to reason that after a couple of years, more phones will develop problems.

You can check this version by dialing the code *#*#7378423#*#* then tap on "Software info".

Got it! Thank you. Seems I have the GEL version, which has not had an update in quite some time. And interestingly I cannot even find what GEL stands for. But I'm assuming it's something like the "Global" version? Thank you again.

I think "GEL" is Latin America, which is one of the very few firmware variants that have not been updated recently.
