MMS Crashes Messaging

MMS Crashes Messaging

Every time I try to open an MMS with a photo or a thread containing an MMS, the Messaging app crashes. The only workaround seems to be deleting the entire thread wthout reading the MMS.

Model F5321 / Build number 34.2.A.0.311

This sounds like the same problem seen on the XZ.

@BronBron

I don't know if you already tested this but boot in >>> safe mode and see if you experience the same issue

Thanks for the tip! As it turns out, Messaging crashes in safe mode too.

I guess it's time for me to dust off ADB and see if there's anything interesting printed to logcat.

My parents have a similar issue - MMS sent from an LG G4 to the Sony Xperia (model F5321) crashed the messaging app. We disabled an "Advanced Messaging" option on the LG that allowed sending photos larger than 1MB. After deleting the messaging conversation, the Xperia can now receive MMS photos that previously crashed the app.

We haven't found a real solution yet, but that workaround seems to work for them.

It's nice to have seen recent software updates. Even better would be an update with a fix for this bug.

All of the Messaging crashes on my phone have the same Java stacktrace where the app tries to access a non-existent List element. From Logcat with build 34.2.A.2.69:

Has anyone found a way to fix this? I can change the default message app, but I would like to be able to receive MMS in ultra stamina mode.

I switched to the android messages app.  Now I can see all my messages.  Dowload android messages from the play store if you don't already have it. Go to the settings menu, apps, messages(not messaging).  scroll down to sms.  Change it to "yes".  That's it.  You can disable the "messaging" app that came with the phone.
