Headphone jack issue/Compatibility

So I've had my X performance for a little more than a year now, but over the last few months I've had issues with the headphone jack. It's not completely broken, but if the connecter for the headphones moves around at all, the audio stops and needs to be reinserted. Also the remote button doesn't work either. Instead of pausing, it increases volume. It used to pause when I first got the phone though. I don't think it's a compatability issues seeing as they are sony headphones ( Sony MDR-XB50AP/B extra bass earbuds) so I believe they are CTIA. I've already talked to a sony Support team through E-mail, so I've tried the resets and system software repairs and those haven't helped a bit. The phone has also never been dropped or hit so I don't know what's causing this. I can't listen to music when I'm out because every few steps the audio cuts out, while if I were to leave the phone on my desk, the music would play fine. Or if I used an AUX cable to connect it to the car, the volume would go up and down wildly and music would stop and start. I've looked in the jack and see no lint, and I used an Air Can to get anything I couldn't see out. That still didn't work. I tried the Smartkey app, no matter how I set the buttons, it still only increases volume. Is this a common problem with this model because it's all I seem to see when I look up this model? The phone is also out of warranty so it will cost me to send it back and local phone repair shops won't touch it. What can I do other than getting blue tooth headphones which isn't an option. I've used five different sets of headphones, three of which were sony pairs and still no solution in sight.

I've had the exact same problem the last few months. I've begun to suspect it's a hardware issue as I've attempted the same remedies as the poster. Pretty dissappointing and intensly frustrating to deal with.

Thank you for the reply. It's been radio silence it seems on this issue. Do you have the exact same problems? Like the smartkey app not working correctly with headphones and such? I agree that it's hardware as I've tried safemode and the resets and restores. How well (if at all) does audio come through your headphone jack?

Pretty much the exact same only I didn't try the smartkey app troubleshoot you have. I've taken to using earphones/buds with a mic/mobile phone buttons in the cable but when that started to drop out I bought another pair, only to have the same problem and realise like you that it was when I moved the jack. It felt as though the socket it self had been jolted and now moved ever so slightly from side to side. The audio is completely fine, it's just a real pain and I've taken to bluetooth earbuds (which are a nuisance as I cant just put my phone in my pants pocket without the audio dropping out) or holding my phone carefully in my hand wherever I go.

I was told by someone that works at a phone repair place that the reason it adjusts the volume uncontrolably was because the phone was assuming earphones with the phone controls on the wire were plugged in. If it gets any worse I'll just have to call sony and send it in (all hope will be lost).
