Hi,
I`d like to start to collect user experience with phone Sony X compact on Oreo (Update it self and phone usage after update). I am starting with my personal experiance.
I started from last 7.1.1 (to 34.4.A.2.19. Phone is encrypted and SD card too.
1. At first problem (bootloop after install) the phone was on 82% of battery when the update started.
All went well, but after last restart it begun to bootloop. My solution was with data lost.
Stop bootloop push power button+volume up, and hold, one vibration and after that three vibration that powers off the phone. Using Sony companion to repair (reflash) the phone. (option like connect unresponsive device) After fifts attempt it was done. Four time UpdateFailed.
2. First feel: Restore Google account id (google device protections), restoring phone data from backups. Some sony programs are gone. Program for device manage memory etc. Setting alarm is not so nice for me. Unlogic setting and wrong colors. With sony white theme, it is gray on black and going to alarm clock setting is thru small arrow on right side. I don`t see it on first time. Click on numbers disable or enable the alarm, not set the time (my personal why?). Black color of SMS in notification. Spotify colors in desktop bar is colored from song(maybe interesting but lost of lucidity). All system look less lucidly compared to 7.1.1.
3. Problems with some programs on device (sony device problem counter in support screen). Google apps, External SD card apk, and with two normail installed apk.
4. Apks dont see external SD card like option to save some data. (like Spotify, mapy.cz) SD card is formated in phone and it is accessible like portable card. Tried to add permitions to storage (to specific apk and then from developer menu enabling sd card store for all apk. Deletion off cache and setting and directory in android/data/com.xxx. With no success. Maybe it is the apk problem, but, I am not sure. The apks dont say nothing.
5. Restore last backup from sony companion, broke my wifi setting for tested wifi network (Wifi connection loop), before restore it was connected and ok. Maybe backup from 7.1.1 is not full compatible. Delete and setting wifi again solved the problem.
6. Except this, it seems stable, tested two days. Battery durability, it seems the same. No drain. Bluetooth, tested devices Parrot headsfree in car and bt headset Picun H2(BT 4.1) OK.
Any others experience?
I forgot to mention, phone usage is smooth and unlagy. Native video apk see SD card like a option. Tested shortly but it seems to work.
My cusrom ringtone was removed and had to resign in to some apps. Notifications will NOT go away. I have had 2 FB notifications, Instagram direct message and an email and messenger notification for 2 weeks now. Also my phone really wants me to stop letting messenger draw over other apps it tells me all the time do I want to stop it? Answer, no. Microphone rarely Works, Everything is very laggy. connection is slow and there's a delay on my phone of a couple seconds that I cannot get to disappear. Someone save me from Oreo!I was completely happy with my phone before the update and now I am do frustrated I avoid using it.
I forgot to add that text messages ans messwnger messages are somerime delayed about 40 minutes
My experience after the last two updates on oreo now build 34.4.A.2.32 is:
1. on all updates the problem with increased battery conumption prevails. No improvement, the phone consume around 20% per hour on average. No gaming, no 4g no gps, just plain wifi and messaging. Is that what you normally should get? I dont get even through day no matter how i try to save the battery. I consider this the largest problem.
2.since update apart from the running apps info, which is anoying but can be hidden, there is a message alert on notification, which says downloading, and it opens new message but stays on notification bar. I cannot get it away. Anybody had similar problem?
3.anything else runs as it should and i would be happy with the update..
Is there some information about part of android or apk which is responsible for hudge battery consumption in settings -> battery -> info about battery usages?
Maybe trying safe-mode to exclude 3part apks.
In my case on 34.4.A.2.19 it seems to be slightly better with battery consuption then on 7.1.1.
Its basically everything which is used. Xperia home screen, gmail, or anything i use consumes unnecessary amount.. writing a mail consumes 29%/hour etc. No matter the brightness settings, im used to have really low brightness.. im really disapointed with the change and dont know if factory reset would help.. since some have tried with no result and there is no particular app or reason for it 😕
I understand, for me was factory reset or better to say rapair thru Sony companion part of necessary solution due to bootloop. But it is the same HW and may be same FW (from other operator) and expected battery life is for about 38h. On the graph of consuption there is a change of characteristic during night propably due to deep sleep.
After repair I used last backup make on Nugat and after reset I had wifi connect loop on Work wifi, it seems that the backup was not 100% compatible, maybe there are some uncompatible settings between Nugat and Oreo, who knows.
I have the same problem with the message downloading notification. It's annoying as it won't go unless you force stop the app.
