@bigt1973,

Thank you for this information. We can isolate it to your modem or connection in that case. If you haven't already, restart your router and try again. Also try to forget the network on your phone by giong to Settings > Wifi > Tap and hold the connection and choose forget > Reconnect.

Hi, I've done both and it's still not working. Does that mean it's a modem problem? Thanks

In case I hadn't mentioned previously, I can't update apps either. Thanks

@bigt1973,

Because it is only happening on your home WiFi connection and no others, and that it does not happen on mobile data, and is happening on multiple devices, leads me to believe that the modem or the internet connection is where the issue lies.

I recommend you contact your internet service provider for further assistance. There may be a blocked port that the play store uses.

I have had the same problem and finally solved it by changing my network configuration.

In my case, I had to change the DNS settings on my network router.

The background for this, is that I have previously replaced the default DNS servers from my ISP - with Comodo Secure DNS*. And for some reason, it is blocking some of the security features introduced in Google Play. It's just an opinion - but I suspect it has to do with Google Protect.

I propose the following actions for others to try out. Please refer your ISP/manufacturers documentation on how to do this, as this will vary greatly between devices:

  1. Logon to your router's** admin interface.
  2. Change the DNS servers for your WIFI and/or LAN to Google Public DNS***(IP addresses 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4).
  3. Restart your router.
  4. Wait for the router to reboot, and restart your phone.
  5. After your phone's reboot, connect your phone to the WIFI(if it have not already).
  6. Make sure to deactivate Mobile Data network - remember you are testing the WIFI.
  7. Open Google Play and retry to download a new App(or update an existing).
  8. If this succeeds you are good:-)

Hope this helps.
