I am experiencing the same problem due to android system keeps notify me that certain apps are running at background and the notifications wake up the screen all the time. The notifications are really annoying. Please do something about it.

For persistent notifications, you can use Autonotification from the play store. Works reliably, free option suffices .

A brief tutorial by the dev behind it:

To the best of my knowledge, those notifications shouldn't wake the screen though, so there is still something suspicious there.

Did you try if same thing happens in safe mode?

I did find a way to get the notification icon off the top of phone by setting the priority to low. The screen is turning on and off all by itself even I set it to not showing notifications when locked. However the situation seems getting better after a reboot.  Only accumulated 4 hrs of usage during daytime instead of the 6 hrs during the same amount of time over the night.

Last night put down the phone with just under 30% around 11pm. Picked up the phone around 6am and it was off with 0% battery. This never happened before the upgrade. Wondering if the phone had a party with Oreo during the night. Not happy.

Try installing GSAM battery monitor, give it proper ADB permissions (included in app), fully charge the phone, and check what happens.

It should at least point you in correct direction.Regular stats don't provide practically any insight.

I downloaded the app and now I can see the phone is really going crazy with the screen. Screenshot_20180308-175949.png

I wasn't even using it much today and only use Waze on the way back.

And here it says the screen used 56% of the battery.Screenshot_20180308-180542.png

To be honest, seeing a screen as top consumer is usualy a good thing. Not so sure in this case.

Stats look way off. 0 minutes at everything.

Have you charged phone fully before looking at stats ?

Did you grant permissions via adb ?

I did charge the phone and gave it whatever permission it asks during installation except the root option. I wasn't using the phone much since I have a second phone. I am ready to move on to the new phone anyway. Maybe just do a factory reset afterwards. Don't have time to deal with it and looks like there nothing a mere user can do for now.
