Android 7.0 Bluetooth and car radio issues

Hi,

After upgrading to Android 7.0 on my Xperia X Compact the phone can still connect to other BT devices but it seems like the discovery process is not working smoothly anymore. Have to restart mobile often to find other devices when pairing.

In my car I pair the phone with VW RNS310 car radio. I can still play music (Spotify) wireless on the car stereo but I can not select previous or next number on the steering wheel nor on the radio unit itself. Also the metadata (artist, track etc.) are no longer displayed on the radio unit display. When I receive a call I can answer but when hanging up the system doesn't go back to music. Same thing if I listen to Spotify and there is a traffic announcement - doesn't return to playing music but are just muted.

Really crap as I'm using this feature a lot and appreciate the need of not having to draw attention to the phone display when driving. In my opinion Sony should roll back to Marshmellow until the BT issues are fixed.

Best regards

I got a new Update today, still have the same problem after the Update. Must be a very hard issue for them to tackle.

In message no 27 of this thread I wrote my opinions of Android and Bluetooth. I'm not sure it is such an easy matter for the phone developers to fix as there might be inherent problems in the OS.

I would like to ALL manufacturers of phones using Android to put the screws on Google. Andoid only exists because there are phone manufacturers and users supporting it. If users reach a point of resistance where they start looking elsewhere then the phone manufacturers also have problems.

I would hate to see the same levels of arrogance from Android as we have all experienced from another very big and popular OS for personal computers.

Hi, I have no problems with Bluetooth streaming in my car (BMW Active Tourer 2015). I'm now using the Xperia X Compact (Android 7.1.1) for a couple of months. Before that I used the Xperia Z3 Compact (several Android versions from 4.x to 6.x). With both phones, music streaming is ok, and the artist/title information is shown in the car display. I also can select next/previous songs through the car radio. The only thing that doesn't work is selecting next/previous songs with the buttons on the steering wheel.

So this problem also depends on the Bluetooth compatibility of your car equipment.

Same issue still with my VW Golf 2015. Audio and phone calls work as expected but no metadata displayed and worse than that, the hardware controls on the steering wheel are still without function. This was working well before Nougat!

My car was in inspection yesterday and the dealer said there is no update for the radio / navigation system and that both, iPhone and Samsung Galaxy (android) phones turned out to work fine just as expected.

Sony, please finally fix this, I would hate to downgrade my Android version only for BT compatibility and take the risk of security flaws as a bitter pill!

You need to change the avrcp version on your phone. Do exactly what the last post on this thread says. It WORKS!! 😃 I've been struggling with a solution for 6 months. 😀
