Sony flamingo record player

Does Sony have any plans to re issue the wonderful and highly sought after Sony Flamingo vinyl record player. Audio Technica have had great success re issuing their soundburger and many of us would live for Sony to do the same with the Flamingo.

Unfortunately we don't have access to that kind of information here but I agree

the 'flamingo' was a cool looking record player as well as being  fully portable as it was battery powered 🙂

I doubt Sony would reissue them as I don't think sales were very good as the Flamingo's upright design forced the needle into the grooves by using mechanical pressure, and reportedly damaged people's records.

For any members that haven't seen it before:

Gramavox has recently attempted a similar concept though

called the Floating Record™ Vertical Turntable if that's of any interest to you.

thanks for that, it makes  a lot of sense the reasons that you put forward.  It's such a shame that this will probably never happen. Where is the Sony of old that created the Walkman only expecting it to do a few thousand sales?

Old thread, but just in case anyone happens to come by, here's my prototype 'Hackmingo' made from a modifed Ion Duo Deck. Lots still to do (e.g. replace the terrible Chuo Denshi cartridge with a Banpa), but it seems to be working!
